Wade was +20 pot at end of rookie contract and instant resign on a max if you also took on a $5M hit a year for the life of the contract.

He was very very good, but I think our statistical standards for PGs have just gotten really high. To your point, I love Bill Russell and he's the greatest winner ever, but I think plenty of basketball people put asterisks next to his name or move him down their top 10 lists because there were like 8 teams in the NBA back then and, outside of playing against Wilt, Russell was grabbing 24 boards a night against plumbers and construction workers.GrundleSauce wrote: September 4th, 2024, 8:15 am Awesome article! Completely disagree with you on Nash though. The guy was THE GOAT of the first 10 years. He was undoubtedly the straw that stirred the drink. It’d be like saying Bill Russell is all rings no things.
In my mind, the knocks on Nash are:
-He only played 13 seasons, and he was only considered one of the league's best for like 5 of those, relatively short peak
-Was average to below average defense/rebounding
-Volume was good not great
The arguments in favor of him are obviously the championship/award pedigree, exceptional FG and 3PT shooting (one time 50/40/90 club member), and good TO efficiency. So again, he was REALLY REALLY good, but as a product of that era of basketball in real life, he was one of very few PGs with any kind of scoring volume so he stood out quite a bit more than I think he would in another era. If you look at Troy Hudson's stats (Pacers 09), they were basically the same guy production-wise and both played 13 years, just Hudson was on bad teams and under bad GMing the whole time so nobody talks about him.
By similar logic, I could totally see an argument for a guy like Mutombo being in the same Gilded category (he was a Butt before we had many butts), so I could probably move him.

I think Tom Brady is the Bill Russell of the NFL. He has all the championships but when you watch him, do you really think he is the greatest football player you’ve ever seen? Aaron Rodgers, Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, hell even Caleb Williams all clearly better players than Brady, similar to Russell

Eddie G was he got a random Pot boost or pot downgrade his first three seasons, and if it was a net upward when he resigned, he go a + boost to his best attributes, and vice versa, and - to his best attributes

I once had Eddie G, Eddy Curry, and Paul Pierce on the same team and I managed to fuck it up. You learn through your mistakes right
