Insight into Progression

Post by ashes »

This will provide some insight into what is used to calculate how the players develop. While I won't reveal everything specifically (outside of awards), this should at least give you a bit of understanding how attribute boosts were calculated and distributed.

First and foremost, the equation for the overall points to be distributed is relatively simple. (((xPPG+xRPG+xAPG+xSPG+xBPG) - xTOPG)*TS%)/3

But where it diverges is that the factors above are weighted differently based on position. For example, a SF xPPG may be worth 1.5x the PPG, whereas a PG xPPG may be worth .75x the PPG (due to scoring being skewed towards PGs). The formulas are applied to each position, with C/PFs sharing the same formula. TS% weighs equally for all positions. Players that don't have a full season's worth of stats will be prorated. Players that progress past the rating restriction for entering the NDL will receive lesser gains in future calculations. Regardless, blah blah blah I came up with a uniform method, put a bunch of numbers in a spreadsheet, and got a single value. Now what!

The overall resulting value (rounded to the nearest whole number) will be distributed in a weighted, random method across relevant categories for the player. Based on their season performance, certain categories will have a higher weight in the randomization. This will also mean things like if your big man doesn't shoot 3s, don't expect him to get better at 3s. If your PG can't rebound, he probably won't get too much better at rebounding. But this will build upon both areas of need (but not 0) and areas of strength.

Finally, the awards a player receives will add bonuses to the above resulting value:

Rookie/Player of the Month - .25
Rookie of the Year - 1
All-League 2nd Team - .5
All-League 3rd Team - .25
All-Defensive 2nd Team - .5

The following awards are worth points that the GM can allocate to attributes of their choosing:

Most Valuable Player - 2
Defensive Player of the Year - 2
All-League 1st Team - 1
All-Defensive 1st Team - 1
