Kevin Garnett - HOFER - Raptors

Hi all SLN Freaks and Geeks! Today is the day we let in one of the SLN GOATs, Kevin “KG” Garnett, into the prestigious hall of fame, way cooler than the hall of very good. This is another creation draft guy who was an absolute freak of nature. A true two way force, heck almost a three way force if you count the rebounding. Though we couldn’t see his heart or hear him screaming at teammates thru the computer screen, you could feel it through his box scores.

Drafted 3rd overall in the creation draft by the Trailblazers as a rookie, not only was KG an immediate positive impact to his team, but he was an immediate top player in the league, making the All star game, all NBA team, and all defense team, averaging 18 PPG on 44.3% shooting, 11 rebounds, 1.7 steals, and 2.1 blocks, to only 1.9 turnovers. He made a major jump in scoring the next year, jumping up to 27 PPG on 47.5% efficiency, with similar stock and rebounding numbers. He spent a total of eight seasons in Portland, keeping the team as a perennial contender with the likes of Cuttino Mobley, Hakeem the Dream, and Allan Houston. However, they were never able to break thru to the finals and KG was shipped to Toronto.

In Toronto, KG continued his stellar two way play, and benefitted from some freebies, including a shooting camp. This helped his shooting efficiency right away, and led him to some of his best seasons in 2004 and 2005, scoring 30-31 PPG, with 11-12 boards, 3+ stocks, on crazy efficiency (48% from the field and 44% from 3). He finally grabbed the elusive title in 2008 on a stacked Raptors team, where he was the Playoff MVP, though he was past his prime of 2004 and 2005 (both stat lines pasted below)

2004 Raptors 77 35.8 851 1757 .484 501 589 .851 134 306 .438 12.4 3.6 1.6 2.1 1.7 8 30.4
2005 Raptors 82 37.7 939 1949 .482 491 597 .822 168 367 .458 11.6 4.0 1.7 1.5 2.2 2 30.9

In total, KG played 6 seasons in a row with the Raptors, where he made the finals twice, before he was sent to the Cavs along with Devin Harris. He helped the Cavs make the playoff (go cavs), then bounced around a little to the Heat, back to the Raptors, then ended his career with the Pistons in 2014.
In his 19 SLN seasons, KG made 11 all star games, 11 all league teams, and 5 all defense teams. He was not on a single bad team, mainly due to his exquisite two way play. IRL – KG was also a beast, so I guess the apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree. That being said, he aged a bit more gracefully in the SLN – freebies may have played a factor, but the HOF does not judge! Doping rules!!!

Congrats on making the HOF KG, as you once said “ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!!!”

I have no dog in this fight as I have already lost all my dignity as a general manager but I think the way this vote was framed is pretty unfair
