Dominique Wilkins
Jacques “Dominique” Wilkins, known as the Human Highlight Film, is one of the best players ever born in France (his dad was stationed there while in the Air Force). While as an NBA star, he played for 5 teams, he never played for the team in which he lead with a steady presence in SLN, the New York Knicks. In the 1996-1997 season, he helped lead the Knicks to a #1 Seed in the East and the inaugural SLN Championship. In his second season, he helped the Knicks again claim the #1 Seed in the East and to the SLN Finals before falling to the Sacramento Kings. Wilkins at the tender age of 38, averaged 11 points per game in 23 minutes, shooting an effective 48%. Playing alongside stars like Michael Jordan, Greg Anthony, Glen Rice, and Steve Kerr, Nique was a veteran leader who helped catalyst a dominant 2 year run.
In the boring real world, Dominque was a 2-time state champion and McDonald’s All-American in high school before playing basketball for the Georgia Bulldogs. He was taken 3rd overall in the 1982 NBA Draft by the Atlanta Hawks, where he spent his first 12 seasons. While in Atlanta, he was an All-Star 9 times and twice won the NBA Slam Dunk competition. He was the NBA Scoring Champion in 1986 and was voted by his peers as one of the top 75 players of all time. While Playoff success generally eluded Dominque, he did lead the Hawks to the playoffs 8 times.
Cheers to one of the most exciting players to ever lace them up!
