Rule Clarifications 2002-2003

Post by Merv »

I was planning on addressing a couple of ambiguous rules that aren't truly spelled out in the rules, and the TOR/UT trade was well-timed for this. So.... some "CBA" changes or clarifications going into this season:

1. Picks that are encumbered via trade protections must convey no later than the maximum number of years into the future (6) when the trade is made. For example, if you trade your 2003 1st round pick and it is "lottery protected in perpetuity," the pick must convey in some way by the 2008 draft. You can specify that it conveys unprotected in 2008, or converts to 2 2nds. However you want to do it. But nothing that goes past that 6-year time window.

I take blame for setting a false precedent for the TOR/UT trade. As Ashes outlined, I think the stip in that deal is fundamentally different than a traditional pick protection - but it's just cleaner to set a very clear standard for everyone to follow.

2. You must use your GMOTY award decision on extending/cutting a year on a contract before resignings are posted the year after you win the award. This has never been violated, but it's worth spelling out now before it ever comes to a controversy. It's already such a huge asset, it would be too big of an advantage to base your decision when you have special knowledge about which players are going to resign or not.

3. You must use your Pick 'Em Award during the same off-season you win the award. Same logic. It's already a crazy prize. No deferring. Everyone is going to win the pick 'em awards multiple times so dw if you aren't using it as efficiently as you may like. Or trade for a guy who would be a good candidate if you are doing well in Pick'Em

4. INPUT requested: Playoff Short-Term Injury Rule. To mimic players playing thru some shit when it matters. Some interest in this. If you have a guy who has a short-term injury (10-days or fewer), you can "heal" them in the playoffs by applying 200 RPs per day you want to heal the player (2K Maximum per playoffs). I have no preference. Let us know if you think it's a good idea! Ashes previously said he would be okay with something like this.

On all things: please refer to the # 1 clause in da rules if you ever are unclear on something or have the inclination to be sketch... FOR THE LOVE OF THE GAME CLAUSE: DON’T BE A DICK. This going to be competitive. No ruining relationships! We do it for the fun.

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEE LET'S KEEP UP THE MOMENTUM LIGHT THE BEAM
