Free Agency Primer
I went through the big names in this Free Agency class and provided my perspective on their worth. It's one of the best FA classes we have seen, but there are definite question marks with age and longevity GMs will have to parse through. Still feel like I left a few names off the lists that can be great value on smaller contracts as well. This is in no particular order.
Bigs:
Dereck Lively II (RFA) - Dereck is on his way to Atlanta after FA Day 1 for the price of 3+ FRPs. Doing 12.2 rpg and 2.5 stock:to, I would say that price is worth it. He deserves a max, which is what Jesse/Heimer will offer him, just hoping a cap space team doesn't poach him with a "fuck you" offer
Andre Drummond - Entering his age 34 season, Drummond is still drumming along. This past season he average ~13 rpg and 2.4 stock:to. How much time does he have left, and how much time at this playing level are the big questions? I think you can get away with $15m for 3 years
Anthony Davis - Another superstar entering his age 34 season, the brows volume is definitely declining, but offers much more than that. He's still decently efficient, one of the best rebounders in the game, and a stock:to machine. Again, how long does he have at this level? I think he's worth $17.5m for 3 years escalating
Domantas Sabonis - Crazy to say he is still one of the most underrated players in SLN. He's 31 and just averaged 29 ppg and 12 rpg at an uber efficient clip. Pay the man and stop shopping him around (I'm guilty of this too). I think it's safe to offer him $17.5m for 4/5 years escalating similar to what Sonicks offered LaVine a few season back
Jonathan Isaac - The best big man in the game? At 30 years old and finally an FA, Jonathan Isaac is available! Excellent rebounder and 4.8 stock:to. He give this man the MAX
Udoka Azubuike - On the younger side of the aforementioned bigs, Udoka is "nice wit it" as the wise-Merv said. He's definitely more limited especially on the defensive end, but he's an excellent rebounder. Can help any team win, and will be garnering interest from all cap teams. I think $12.5m for 4 years escalation could be a nice gamble
Brandon Clarke - He's really broken out the last couple seasons and now turns it over less, making him an ideal big man. He has a 2.6 stock:to and averages >13 rpg per 36. I think a flat $12m over 3/4 years flat brings him to a new home
Forwards/Wings:
Michael Porter Jr. - MPJ is entering his age 29 season, but he's really a 23(?) year old because of the potential boost to 100. I'm interested to see what Tyler offers him but word on the street is the MAX. If he still has loads of potential, why not? He has continued to improve every year and might as well receive the SF development arch treatment with loaded potential.
Lauri Markkanen - Interesting choice by Quady not to accept Lauri's resigning offer. He's going to be a hot commodity on the market given his scoring prowess and plus rebounding at SF. Not sure he's worth a full max but something close and for less years, I think a little less than the Sabonis offer
Zaccharie Risacher (RFA) - Risacher definitely took a step back after a few exciting development years. I expected a pop this year that never came, but as a SF that can come much later. For Kipke's sake, hopefully he doesn't get poison pilled but expect a MAX to come his way since he was the blue chip prospect in the Chet trade.
Cam Whitmore (RFA) - Cam had a breakout season… only Sonicks saw coming? He has cemented himself as a top player in the league and better than Ron Holland. He will get the MAX from Sonicks, so not much to talk about here.
Guards:
Jamal Murray - The prize possession of the FA class? Jamal just came off a championship victory… hopefully he doesn't instagram live anything… He's a top 5, maybe top 3 PG in the league entering his age 31 season. Give this man the MAX, but Merv has a big coring advantage
Donovan Mitchell - Still has yet to play as nice as his ratings, but this is Heimer's guy, and Heimer pays his people. I think the league keeps waiting for the Donovan Mitchell breakout, so not really sure what to make of Spida. I think he's deserving of $15m over 3/4 years escalating
Terence Davis - You probably didn't expect this name, did you? Go look at this man's stats, he could be a god at SG and was hiding on the Hornets all season. He averaged 26 ppg crazy efficiently. He's definitely worth keeping an eye on
Jean Montero - After a breakout season by Jean Montero, he hits FA. The Heat got fucked (or a blessing in disguise) by retirings, so expect a MAX to be thrown this man's way. He has a positive stock:to at the PG position and has good volume
Lonzo Ball - Lonzo was shopped practically all season to no avail. Where does he end up next and for how much? He's yet to have his breakout start in an outside oriented offense where sources around the league expect him to shine in. I think a mid-tier max is a good number for Lonzo given his positive stock:to and pretty efficient offense
Scoot Henderson (RFA) - 3(?) time NDL MVP made his maiden SLN season with sky high expectations. However, he didn't totally live up to it, surprisingly. Still a champ though. Not sure he's worth a MAX as of now but that's what it will take to keep him. He's still very young and already close to positive stock:to
