Best Moves of 12-13 SLN

Another column back after hiatus. On the eve of free agency, let’s show some love to people who crushed last offseason. I’m hoping for a better offseason this year because the FA moves didn’t exactly pan out last year.
#1. Ben Gordon - $28.5M over 3 years to the Cavs (eventual S&T Blazers)
For a guy we’ll describe as 85% Dahntay Jones, this is a steal of a contract. His lower number allowed Quady to have some flexibility around his stars which led to a 61 win season. BG averaged 22.7/6.3/3.8 on .471/.432/.916 and has 2 years left at $9.5M
#2. Metta World Peace - $35.2M over 2 years to the Kangz
Signed as part of a potential 2004 Lakers if you will, combined with the marquee signing of Pau (will not make this list lol). Metta ended up getting hurt mid-season but was back in peak Jesse form. With an extra year at $17.6M, his last effective year or two should give Jesse a playoff contender
#3. DeAndre Jordan - $77M over 7 years to the Spurs
This contract would look even better if it was flipped. Jordo stole DJ out of Boston, a young big with B potential and A-/A- ratings at the age of 25. He looks very Emeka-ish. Currently 35th on the big butt list, he still has room for improvement.
#4. Curtis Borchardt – $4.1M over 3 years to the Kangz
Clearly, most of the marquee signings haven’t really panned out. But I think this was just a shrewd move to acquire a really useful 3rd big at absolute bargain bin prices. Curtis had the top STOCK:TO ratio by a country mile. He’s an elite rim protector who sometimes doesn’t rebound. But I think rim protection might be more important.
#5. OJ Mayo - $57.5M over 4 years to the Spurs
Jordo steals the ultimate backcourt gunner from Weston for a 4-year max. Don’t worry, his tenure wasn’t long in San Antonio. Matt swiftly acquired him mid-season to bring some youth to the backcourt.
#1. Charlie Villanueva – LA Lakers
Did anyone notice the season this dude had? 14.9/10.2 with a positive STOCK:TO! Tank commander for sure, but that’s kinda interesting
#2. Mike Dunleavy - Portland
Quady’s favorite son. He gave solid bench minutes and averaged 9.0 PPG on 47.2% FG%
#3. Kevin Martin - Kangz
Basically the same as Dunleavy
#4. Richard Jefferson – Hornets
Had some impressive efficiency in limited minutes
#5. TJ Ford – Nuggets
Filled in admirably for Steph. At one point, Ashes thought he might be good this year
#1. Hedo Turkoglu - Bulls
No idea how this was an MLE. Hedo was pretty freaking awesome in Chicago. Immediately extended. 22.7/5.3/4.2 on .486/.474/.857. Wow.
#2. David Lee – Cavs
Became a very important piece on a Rockets title time. Roughly 16/12 per 36.
#3. Fabricio Oberto - Heat
Traded to the Grizz and was just a really nice front court piece.
#4. Andris Biedrins - Celtics
Generic front court piece with great rebounding and solid positional defense
#5. Roy Hibbert - Grizzlies
More or less the same as Biedrins but more offense than rebounding
#1. Luis Scola - Bullets
He was basically leading the front court in Washington before the ZBo acquisition. Solid season at 10.3/6.9. Gave valuable minutes and rebounding.
#2. Jumaine Jones – Bucks
Derek consistently has good LLE signings. Jumaine isn’t the best but his 2.0 SPG on 45.8% FG% probably helped!
#3. Mike Sweetney - Celtics
He’s fine
#4. Ime Udoka - Nuggets
A very bit part role but played it well
#5. Olumide Oyedeji - Kangz
meh
#1. Blake Griffin to the Rockets
When this happened, I didn’t think it would end well for Nolan. Then he won a title and told me to STFU. Blake was the perfect fit as an Inside SF next to TMac and Eddy. It cost him his 15-17 future, but I think it was worth it for the title no matter what happens.
#2. Monta to the Nuggets
For a total acquisition cost of Boogie, Bobby Simmons, Thabo, Nuggets 16 FRP, Sonics 15 21-29 (Likely 16) FRP, Kipke acquired 2-time All Star, averaging 29.2/5.8/4.8 with 2.3 SPG. Masterful work, would probably be #1 if Blake didn’t guide Houston to a title.
#3. Ben Gordon to the Blazers
For the cost of a 16 FRP, Quady adds a stud SG on a nice contract. He’s been talked about enough above
#4. Devin Harris for Harrison Barnes and co.
Wasn’t exactly the highest of prices for a PG on an expiring. Boston didn’t quite have the jump they were expecting, which is why it’s lower. Fortunately for Joe, Devin resigned at a gorgeous price.
#5. OJ Mayo for 500 RP
Matt acquired a stud scorer, albeit, non-defender for a pretty cheap price. I think this has a chance to look pretty nice in a few seasons.
