Mock draft while waiting on Ashes Mock
Posted: August 5th, 2024, 4:48 pm
1. Golden State Warriors: Jayson Tatum (SF) - Duke
Needs: C, SG, PG; Defense
The Golden State Warriors have finally hit rock bottom and thus gifted the number one pick. Lucky for them, a number of potential superstars are available. Perhaps the last thing this team needs is another wing that can play the 3/4 but Tatum might be too good to pass up. Tatum has publicly stated the reason he went to Duke was bc he looked up to Jabari Parker, should be fun for them.
Other options: Jonathan Isaac, Jarrett Allen, Bam Adebayo
2. Charlotte Hornets: Jonathan Isaac (PF) - Florida State
Needs: Everything
The Yao era is gone and supposedly a failed deal to move the team to Oklahoma City was the inspiration for the change up (per Sources). Regardless, after moving up in the draft last year and picking CG Jamal Murray, this team is in a great position to pick BPA. Isaac’s offensive game is raw but his defensive potential looks world class. Give him time and he could be better than Tatum, who knows.
Other Options: Bam Adebayo, Lauri Markannen, Donovan Mitchell
3. Milwaukee Bucks: Bam Adebayo (C) - Kentucky
Needs: Everything
Wow, what a hop skip jump up the lottery from Milwaukee. In an ideal world, i think Derek takes Isaac here but Bam is an amazing consolation. Bigs take time but Bam looks ready to be an anchor from day one with two-way potential possible. Idk, i think if anyone can get the juice out of his offense its Derek.
Other Options: Lauri Markannen, Lonzo Ball, Jarrett Allen
4. Portland Trail Blazers: Lauri Markannen (PF) - Arizona
Needs: PG, PF, SF
Quady is in a good position here. I am in the notion that Dirk was especially OP because of those PickEm camps and who is one of the better PickEm bettors? Well, he calls Portland home and lights one up with Bill Walton(RIP) every weekend. No one is trading for Dwight and i think Markannen aka Dirk 2.0 is the perfect complement next to him.
Other Options: Lonzo Ball, De’Aaron Fox
5. Washington Wizards: Jarrett Allen (C) - UC Irvine? Nah, Texas, right?
Needs: C, PG, SG
Jarrett Allen is that dude and as im writing this, i wonder if Ashes left his profile as Danny Weatherspoon just so I take him at 1. Wes should be ecstatic with this outcome. Certain Center molds are OP in my mind and Allen fits it perfectly. Larry Sanders and Nerlens Noel, skinny but got that wingspan and dont have their feet stuck in DC swamps(the OG swampland). Hes 19, he will be cheap on resignings, he can be the anchor for this team for 10 years.
Other Options: Any PG
6. Los Angeles Lakers: Donovan Mitchell (SG) - Louisville
Needs: BPA or SG
George tumbled down another year but this draft is lining up to have a TON of talent still available after the top 5. CJ wants to leave? Cool. Fuck Him. Mitchell is perfect for LA and can be their number 1 guy from day one. Do i like him IRL? Fuck No but i think he has the potential to teeter on that two-way line just like Monta. George has the bigs, he has Rubio(still young af), he has the wings(takes time), and now he can have the true head of the snake.
Other Options: Nah, this one seems perfect.
7. Seattle SuperSoNicks: De’Aaron Fox (PG) - Kentucky
Needs: SG, BPA
This pick could go a number of directions and perhaps if someone in the top 5 gets froggy, Nick could be moving up. I think in one camp Lonzo could go here and Simmons becomes the OP super-sub instantly. De’Aaron does feel like a retread after Wall but i think Fox’s shooting will be better and he can play SG. Idk Monk could be good here as well and buys Nick time until next years draft.
Other Options: Fultz for the vibes, Dillon Brooks, Lonzo, Monk. Darkhorse: Kuzmania
8. Los Angeles Clippers: Kyle Kuzma (PF) - Utah
Needs: Bigs
The Clippers are closer to a playoff team than tanker and Kuzma is a piece that fits neatly into this lineup.
9. Chicago Bulls: Lonzo Ball (PG) - UCLA
Needs: Injection of Youth
Matt is flipping his team over on the fly and 3 FRPs this draft will help greatly. Lonzo’s representatives turned down Golden States advances during the scouting process but I wonder if it was a play just to get to a known winner in Chicago. A shooting SC is necessary but dude looks like he can hold down the PG spot for a long time.
10. Los Angeles Lakers: Markelle Fultz (PG) - UW
11. Chicago Bulls: Malik Monk (SG) - Kentucky
12. Orlando Magic: OG Anunoby (SF)
13. Phoenix Suns: Dillon Brooks (SF)
Dark Horse Lotto Candidates:
Derrick White (SG)
Josh Hart (SF)
John Collins (PF)
Luke Kennard (SG)
Bobby Boucher (PF)
Sorry this article is weak af, just wanna post it to see how close i get to how things work out.
