Comparing Sacks (Again)

It's been quite a long time since we compared sacks. The readers are bursting with excitement. Without further delay, it's time to measure up (again).

(Hoping this is a useful look at the landscape of traded picks right now for those who are selling and buying, also)

NOTABLE FUTURE PICKS THAT EXIST AS ASSETS

2022: DET FRP (CHI), PHI FRP (WAS)
2023: GSW FRP (DAL), UTA FRP (SAC)
2024: GSW FRP (DAL), UTA FRP (SAC), LAL FRP (BOS), TOR FRP (PHI), CLE FRP (DAL)
2025: UTA FRP (SAC)

Here is a shortlist of the future (2022 and onward) picks that are kind of floating around and don't belong to the teams listed below but do have some future trade value. None of these teams had enough girth for me to give them their own section in this article but I think these items are all of note.

The 2022 Detroit and Philly picks are among the better ones out there just due to the difficulty level that will face the Pistons and Sixers to be competitive one offseason from now, those are on track to be lottery picks barring anything crazy happening.

The Mavs have a little mini-sack going but don't have as many assets as you'd think for a team that went into the tank. However, the Warriors picks and the Cavs pick do have some value on the market due to uncertainty around those two franchises (GSW ownership is up in the air and the Cavs are working to claw into the playoffs).

The trio of Jazz picks belonging to the Kings is notable, if only because Greg Oden will not be Greg Oden forever, and Jesse will likely either try to get players off of Utah or market those picks as a group to get something he wants.

SAN ANTONIO BALLERS: 10 first round picks

2021: No FRPs
2022: SAS
2023: SAS, SEA, CLE FRPs
2024: SAS, NYK FRPs
2025: SAS, NYK FRPs
2026: SAS, NYK FRPs

The first team that made the list is the Spurs. Jordo is working on his bulge, however, the pending Knicks dynasty probably devalues that trio of New York picks. Will be curious to see whether San Antonio can spin off anything else on the roster into more draft picks, with some interesting young guys that would likely have market value before they hit their next contracts.

TORONTO BALLERS: 10 FIRST ROUND PICKS

2021: No FRPs
2022: TOR FRP
2023: TOR, CHA, ATL, ORL FRPs
2024: ATL FRP
2025: TOR, CHA, ATL
2026: TOR

My sack is modest but effective. Workmanlike. I don't feel amazing about shorting the Hornets (insert Jamal Murray joke of your choice, if you know you know) but we'll see whether Isaac, Semi and Boogie stick it out with Charlotte in free agency or not. Maybe the Hawks will get old. I don't really know if I am tanking or not, but am hoping to move up this list if people decide to trade for my players.

also for the record i have 18 second round picks to my name lol

MIAMI BALLERS: 11 FIRST ROUND PICKS

2021: MIA FRP
2022: MIA, CHI FRPs
2023: MIA, CHI, LAC FRPs
2024: MIA, CHI FRPs
2025: MIA, CHI FRPs
2026: MIA FRP

Scoops got quite the haul for Klay, although Luka becoming elite makes it look like the Bulls will probably figure this out as time goes on. That one 2023 Clippers pick he got for Melo is also a pretty nice asset. Not a lot of sack diversity here, but he can basically just try to use his cap space to take players from the Bulls for the foreseeable future I guess (sorry Matt)?

DENVER BALLERS: 16 FIRST ROUND PICKS

2021: DEN, UTA, ORL FRPs
2022: DEN, UTA, NYK FRPs
2023: DEN, MIL, LAL, NYK FRPs
2024: DEN, MIL FRPs
2025: DEN, MIL, LAL FRPs
2026: DEN'

Here we are, getting into the good stuff - Kipke has a lot of firsts. I don't know how great any of them are as standalone picks — the Bucks seem to be going in a good direction and the 22/23 Knicks picks aren't good. Those Lakers picks are wild cards and have value I think, with Kyrie being unpredictable and GX willing to take risks as a GM. Kipke has the ability to offer a pretty large stack of stuff for whatever strikes his fancy.

BROOKLYN BALLERS: 16 FIRST ROUND PICKS

2021: BKN, CLE, POR, SAS, LAL FRPs
2022: BKN, ORL, LAL, PHX FRPs
2023: BKN, PHX FRPs
2024: BKN, SAC FRPs
2025: BKN, SAC FRPs
2026: BKN FRP

Finally the part where I get to talk about my son and his well-endowed sack. I wish I could say it runs in the tree, but, well, anyway, Steven received a unibrow sized load of 2021 picks from the Bullets and might be picking four times in the 8-13 range of this draft (lol). I don't know what his future stuff amounts to, but if he can use this 2021 draft as a springboard to adding futures and solid prospects, who knows.

Every time I see FRP written I read it in my head as “furp” or “furps”
