Another season, gone. And another GOAT rides off into the sunset. Welcome back SLN – the Grand Maesters have conferred and we bring for yet another Honorary Hall of Fame induction to go alongside John Stockton, Karl Malone, Robert Parish, Dominique Wilkins, and Patrick Ewing from previous offseasons. We are still a few seasons away from having our voting based on SLN-only careers, so for now we’ll continue to honor those legends of the game whose time in SLN was too short to justify the trip to the Hall.

Our only inductee this year is the Round Mound of Rebound himself, Charles Barkley. Chuck is a native of Leeds, Alabama and attended Auburn University in Alabama, Barkley averaged 14.1 points per game and 9.6 rebounds per game in his career at Auburn. During his career with the 76ers , the Suns and the Rockets, Chuck was selected to 11 NBA All-Star games as well as the All-NBA First Team five times and the All-NBA Second Team five times. He won an Olympic gold medal with the 1992 United States Olympic Dream Team and was the NBA’s Most Valuable Player in the 1993 season. A member of the NBA’s 50th Anniversary team, Barkley averaged 22.1 points per game and almost 12 rebounds per game in his 16-year NBA career. He shares the single game record for most offensive rebounds in one quarter (11 in 1987).

Chuck would go on to have a legendary career as a TNT NBA TV analyst, working on a world renowned NBA segment, along with Shaq, Kenny Smith, and Big Ernie. One of the most legendary golf swing overhauls, he truly shows that money can solve just about anything. But this is not why we love Chuck. We love him because after throwing a guy through a 1st floor window in a bar, Charles was in front of the judge, who asked “Your sanctions are community service and a fine, do you have any regrets?” to which Charles replied “Yeah I regret we weren’t on a higher floor”! This is the man who called the Warriors dynasty “girly basketball” and that “I can be bought. If they paid me enough, I’d work for the Klan.” This man truly knew no restraint. And for that we love you. Go off into that golden sunset on TNT cash money checks shit talking with the boys for the rest of the day.

My favorite Chuck quote:

After an Olympic Dream Team victory over Angola, in which they won 116-48, Charles got into a physical altercation with a member of Angola towards the end of the game, afterwards he says. “Somebody hits me, I’m going to hit him back. Even if it does look like he hasn’t eaten in a couple weeks. I thought he was going to pull a spear on me.”
