Hard Cap Penalties only become enforceable during the start of each season. What this means: If you are over the Hard Cap during the off-season, you have until 24-hours after Training Camp is posted to officially get under. Because of this additional leeway, transactions that are intended to cause a team to duck under the Hard Cap must be FULLY EXECUTED by this deadline, with no exceptions (for example: a team trading an MLE on day-30 to get under the HC doesn’t suffice.... a transaction waiting on other trades that haven’t been executed would not suffice). Additionally, contract buyouts for the new league year may not start until after regular season sim 1, which prevents a team from circumventing the rules and buying out 4 players - two before tc, two right after - to duck the cap. During season, the Hard Cap rules remain the same: a team has the same 48-hours to duck the cap before the penalties are enforced.


It's been a while, so there was a little bit of confusion that I can understand, but a penalty must occur, nonetheless.

-Trae Young is lost to waivers.
-BOS loses MLE/LLE and FA privileges (coring, birds) from remainder of this season through the end of the 2027-2028 season (To resume the start of the 2028-2029 offseason).
-BOS forfeits their 2028 1st.

I get that rules are there to be adhered to and enforced, but this seems harsh. If we want to take a hard and fast approach rule enforcement (which is fine) my question would be - is this level of punishment consistent with the harm of the behavior we’re aiming to deter?

The full penalty is two 1sts and loss of FA privileges for the next 2 seasons, as opposed to one first loss of privileges for the next offseason. I fail to see this being harsh. It's an established rule that was meant to further lessen the stress of the old HC timer during the offseason.

24 hrs is not arbitrary nor does it have anything to do with holding me up. It was a change that allows teams to be over the HC for the entirety of the draft and FA. So you have a solid 4-5 days plus the additional day after TC to handle your cap situation as opposed to the standard clock of just 48 hrs from the point of going over which is a mess during the offseason. viewtopic.php?t=402

It's been in place for 20 seasons and there have been no issues. There needs to be a deadline/limit defined. It being just when I sim then creates "well I thought I had more time because the sim hasn't happened"

If it makes it even easier, I'll tag teams that are over in the TC post, but we have all been staring a bold, red warning in the TC post for over a year now.
