JWoo's 2011-12 Power Rankings

Post by jwoo »

Rushing these out because Ashes is about to sim and it's not the same if we see boxes first lol. Sorry if I overlooked anything important. It's a hard year to rank with a giant middle tier of teams!

29. New Jersey Nets

The Nets are the worst. Manifesting a good lotto result for Steven at long last.

28. San Antonio Spurs

Happy tanking, Jordo. More memes in the meantime.

27. Minnesota Timberwolves

That 0-12 preseason was pretty stinky. Pankin may regret moving his 2012 pick without extra salary to help add to the roster and compete.

26. Indiana Pacers

Rudy Gay and Troy Hudson might make it a little hard to be total ass, but the Pacers are still on the thinner side relative to the rest of the East.

25. Miami Heat

Heat could be scrappier this year with Kenyon Martin and Klay looking ready to contribute. Shaping up into a pretty fun team.

24. Boston Celtics

Seems like they're tanking still for some reason but they might be too good to actually do it. We'll see.

23. LA Lakers

New management has a tall task this year — trade guys for value and punt, or try to shift gears and get better? The latter is harder to do without salary ballast to move, so this feels like kind of a transition season for the Lakers, who sadly don't have their own pick.

22. Atlanta Hawks

Lot of swing factors for the Hawks but they seem to be exercising patience with these young guys. Need a Westbrook leap and more growth from their prospects to make noise, but there's time for this team to grow together.

21. Toronto Raptors

Not exactly sure how much success one can have with an uncamped rookie PG but we are gonna give it a shot lol. Trying not to tank but we'll see how this thing goes.

20. Golden State Warriors

Good preseason showing for the Dubs, not sure what to make of it yet other than Monta seems to have ascended. Think the Warriors are still a PG away from being a playoff team but there are some fun pieces here now.

19. LA Clippers

Malik Allen was a great pickup by Bobby, we'll see how evolved his young guys are and whether Boozer will break out, hard to say. But Clippers had a good TC and could be poised to keep improving.

18. Detroit Pistons

Lou Will is gonna absolutely eat in Detroit, but curious to see how the whole thing jells. Could be a year away, could be a move away. A fun team to monitor.

17. Sacramento Kings

Not sure what to make of this squad but I'm sure it will be interesting. Jesse will find the right DC and these guys probably get hot.

16. Orlando Magic

Think the Magic will be able to build on last year if the cheap but fun D-Will gamble pays off.

15. Phoenix Suns

Could see the Suns making a leap. This tier of teams is a clusterfuck. I like the personnel and think Tyler will figure this out.

14. Denver Nuggets

Optimistic the Nugs will turn this around fast, with a Curry breakout incoming, Boogie marinating, and now, Melo and a good cast of role players that used to be Raptors.

13. Cleveland Cavs

This Cavs team is looking pretty Raptor-y. Can't put my finger on why.

12. Utah Jazz

Jazz have star power but still have to put some things together.

11. Houston Rockets

Think Nolan needs to go get some guys to help replace Jamison and the depth factor hurts, but still a tough out thanks to Eddy, T-Mac and Livingston.

10. Charlotte Hornets

I don't think the Hornets are in bad shape or anything, but they may be nearing the end of this current run due to age and contracts of all their key guys. Could be the last stand for Charlotte!

9. Philadelphia 76ers

They have LeBron, you don't.

8. Seattle Supersonics

Never too worried about these guys, but replacing Brandon Roy's production might be a little tricky.

7. Washington Bullets

Bullets will be right there for the division title again, but losing Ben Wallace leaves them probably a big short. A couple good moves could get them to the finals.

6. New York Knicks

As long as Chauncey doesn't regress, the Knicks have a proven formula that should give them a chance to win the Atlantic.

5. Portland Trail Blazers

The Redd addition is probably an upgrade on Mobley. After last season's playoff upset, I'm expecting the Blazers to come back with a vengeance.

4. Dallas Mavericks

Mavs looking super formidable with Jrue looking like a breakout candidate and some young guys still improving. The ceiling here looks pretty high.

3. Chicago Bulls

It would be the Bulls' year if it weren't the Bucks' year.

2. Vancouver Grizzlies

Champs are still the champs. Everyone is back. Only thing that can break it up is an itchy trigger finger with Pau and Williams

1. Milwaukee Bucks

Fresh off the most dominant preseason 2 in SLN history, it appears to be the Bucks' year. KD at the four might be a true cheat code.

Don't tote no twenty-twos, Magnum cost me twenty-two
Sat it on them twenty-twos, birds go for twenty-two
Welcome to Atlanta where the playas play
And we ride on dem thangs like ev-ery day
Big beats, hit streets, see gangstahs roamin'
And parties don't stop 'til eight in the Monin

Highest we’ve ever been, but have a feeling it’ll take 1 or 2 more moves
