Alonzo Mourning
Dedicated SLN enthusiasts, it is with great enthusiasm and immense pleasure that we extend our heartfelt congratulations to Alonzo "ZO" Mourning on his well-deserved induction into the Hall of Fame. In a league where legends are forged, ZO's claim to this honor is undeniable, echoed by resounding support from voters, with over 75% in favor. The Historians Hall of History's scoring sheet further validates this accolade, as ZO notched an impressive 44 points, second only to Hakeem's legendary performance.
Alonzo proved to be an astoundingly efficient two-way juggernaut, a true force with an imposing presence in the paint and a knack for scoring. Drafted under the old Nets regime, he amassed a slew of accolades before joining forces with Shaq in Miami, including four All-Star appearances and multiple selections to the All-League and All-Defensive teams, totaling six times in all. A walking double-double machine, he boasted a career rebounding average of 12.3, rivaled only by the great Hakeem. Remarkably, he averaged an astonishing four steals and blocks combined throughout his career, nearly reaching the five-stock mark at his zenith. Alongside Hakeem and Dikembe, ZO stands as one of the three retirees to max out our Stock scoring chart.
What sets ZO apart is his all-encompassing prowess, akin to Hakeem himself, a complete big man the league hasn't seen since the Dream. Remarkably, his nearly 20 points per game career averages were achieved with a remarkable shooting efficiency of 45%FG. This is a feat worth celebrating, given his robust thiccness and unwavering commitment to scoring.
While ZO may not have enjoyed the playoff success some would have expected, his 2002 run with Shaq showcased the tantalizing promise of two twin towers dominating the league. It leaves us to ponder what might have been if they had joined forces earlier in their careers or, perhaps, if they hadn't hated playing with each other.
Alonzo, you balled out consistently throughout your career, earning numerous accolades and etching your name into the conversation of the SLN's all-time greats (right after Hakeem, of course). Despite the elusive rings, your unwavering efficiency and regular season dominance have unequivocally earned you a place among the immortals in the SLN Hall of Fame. Your legacy will stand the test of time, a testament to your remarkable contributions to the game we all hold dear. Congratulations, ZO, you've made your mark, and it's a legendary one!
