Team Awards 19-20

Post by Joe »

TL;DR - free RPs for a quick post!

Get these done before the tip of next season!

Every year, every GM's got his studs and it's duds, his craftiest moves and most embarrassing flops. For 75RPs, fill out the answers to the following questions and post it in the thread - think of these as your post-season Dundies, awarding each of the first 4 to players on your team, and then reflect on some of the key moments from your year. Post these whenever! Just get em done before sim 1. Offseason questionnaire will be posted later on.

Once you've posted, DO NOT claim your RP in the RP thread - we will calculate at the end.

MOST VALUABLE PLAYER: Sabonis, total monster!

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Drummond. Continues to build his legend in Indy

MOST IMPROVED: Would be Fox but he wasn’t on my team last year, so probably Sabonis - volume going up is nice

SIXTH MAN: Did so many different Supersubs this year but the most fun one was Sabonis 2-5!

BIGGEST SURPRISE: Tyler Herro being good out of the box?

BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT: Andrew Harrison not actually being that good

TRADE/ACQUISITION OF THE YEAR: Swipa! Who knows if it’ll work but fun to have him and Domas on the same team

REGRETS: Trading away Julian Wright, think I woulda won round 1 with him

TEAM AWARDS

MOST VALUABLE PLAYER: Carmelo. Toss up between him and Fultz but Melo is just absurdly efficient from the field at 28.5 ppg and stock to TO positive

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Eddie Griffin and Darko are pretty identical here so I'll give it to both of them with just a bit over 3 stocks per game

MOST IMPROVED: Fultz! Anniversary boost and another year of PG camps did him well. Jumped in efficiency, ppg and assists. Would've expected to see his 3p% to improve with quite a bit of boosts put into his 3p but it actually ticked down a bit. Very happy to have him and hope he can keep improving.

SIXTH MAN: Nobody was too impressive. Tobias for lack of better options. Why do I have this guy under contract for 3 more seasons. I haven't learned shit in these 2 years.

BIGGEST SURPRISE: Missing the playoffs. Thought my team was pretty sexy on paper. Think it was tough with Eddie Griffin and Darko only staying on the floor for like 27 mpg.

BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT: Vooch. Why did I sign this loser to a 4 year deal.

TRADE/ACQUISITION OF THE YEAR: Getting melo. Think it was a decent deal for both sides but happy to have only given up 1 first. I think Grayson Allen could be a stud if he's super camped but I just didn't have the cash for that.

REGRETS: Not getting a deal done to get a better 4/5

TEAM AWARDS

MOST VALUABLE PLAYER: Has to be Kevin Love. Went on a tear after we traded Hump and the team went 25-4, if Love is good so are we.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Tyus Jones, 2nd team all SLN/BBB

MOST IMPROVED: I cant give this to anyone, everyone stinks

SIXTH MAN: Thabo after we traded for him, such a better fit than Ersan

BIGGEST SURPRISE: How dogshit we were to start the year, how does a team that swaps Beasley/PJ Tucker for Jimmy Butler/Ersan is worse at defense

BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT:The entire first half of the season

TRADE/ACQUISITION OF THE YEAR: Trading Hump for Mitchell Robinson

REGRETS: Not trading Hump and Ersan sooner
I am straight up not having a good time

MOST VALUABLE PLAYER: LeBron. He is still good!

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Not much defense was played by our team. Aaron Gordon spiking in blocks after moving to PF full-time was a very nice development.

MOST IMPROVED: Similarly there was not a ton of improvement but AG's efficiency took another nice jump. Jerian Grant made really nice strides once we pivoted to an outside offense/playing faster.

SIXTH MAN: I guess Henry Ellenson?

BIGGEST SURPRISE: I think just how weirdly/arguably badly all our pieces fit post LeBron trade - I figured we would get worse in some capacity but we were insanely inconsistent despite how much offensive firepower we had. Some of that was probably LeBron's TOs at PG but it was a worthwhile experiment.

BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT: Aaron Gordon's injury midseason really killed any chance to build momentum, at that point we had started to click a little bit, it led directly into some directional soul searching/the Boogie trade. Wanted to run inside with AG/Boogie/Bron for at least one sim but the timing of everything didn't leave room to do that after the Hornets made a push for him.

TRADE/ACQUISITION OF THE YEAR: It sucked to pivot out of competing in the truest sense but was ultimately pretty happy with the value we got for Boogie and the net of that trade (flipping Thabo's expiring into Lamb, an extra pick, RP, etc).

REGRETS: None really, but that season sucked for us lol

MOST VALUABLE PLAYER: Shabazz Muhammad, he seemed like the only guy actually trying to win games

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Pascal Siakam, got nearly 2 stocks a game and actually played pretty good D against some of the better small forwards in the league

MOST IMPROVED: Trae Young, his TOs dropped nearly an entire 1 per game from last year

SIXTH MAN: Demar Derozan, elite shooting splits with manageable TOs

BIGGEST SURPRISE: Zion shooting over 46% from the field as an uncamped rookie

BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT: Christian Wood regressing in TC and not playing as well as he did last year

TRADE/ACQUISITION OF THE YEAR: Shabazz right before the season started, he's nice!

REGRETS: Signing LiAngelo Ball and subjecting myself to the daily Nick harassment texts

BIGGEST SURPRISE: Thon Maker being a diference maker immediately - love me some Thon

BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT: Not making the playoffs - too many close losses during the regular season

TRADE/ACQUISITION OF THE YEAR: Beasley i guess even though it kinda fucked my cap up lol yolo

REGRETS: Probably trading for beasley but yolo lol - hes actually pretty good - hope he can have a rejuvenation during the BBB tourny

MOST VALUABLE PLAYER: Klay Thompson
almost 27 ppg on good efficiency and neutral stock:TO is good enough for me! Hoping we see some 3pt regression next season.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Larry Sanders
Sanders is just a humble stock lord, a classic lunch pail kinda guy - just collect his minimum contract and do all the dirty work

MOST IMPROVED: Luka
He's starting to blossom, although there are still obvious holes in his game, namely turnovers and his shooting efficiency - hoping +10 to handles and +10 to jumpshot, along with natural potential gain, helps him take the leap this season.

SIXTH MAN:
Rudy Fernandez. He was casually an absolute bucket last season - helped us a ton

BIGGEST SURPRISE: Sucking? Thought we'd be better, especially after the previous season. Oh well

BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT: Sucking. Also not seeing an obvious step forward from Dillon Brooks - hopeful he continues to improve

TRADE/ACQUISITION OF THE YEAR: Trading picks for Klay I guess? Idk, that trade looks pretty good for Scoops now. Probably turning Livingston, who wasn't a part of our long term future, into Kazemi, who is nice

REGRETS: Sucking

MOST VALUABLE PLAYER:

I think this has to be my beautiful boy Lauri. He was the highest achiever of all of my starters relative to others at their position, and we crushed as soon as he got healthy.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR:

Greg Monroe! 13 boards a game in 33 minutes, 1.5 steals playing exclusively center. Blocks - overrated. Don't talk to me about blocks.

MOST IMPROVED:

The answer is definitely Lauri, but I don't want to repeat, so I'll go with Montrezl Harrell. As a full time starter at the 4 he added almost a block a game, boarded well, and provided stout positional defense.

SIXTH MAN:

Ben Gordon the OG! Went out in the top 10 of TS% scoring 10ppg for us after we got him out of Minny at the deadline. In his final season in SLN / BBL, he went out slashing 49/47/91. Come visit us at the Moda Center to see the Gordon jersey hanging in the rafters.

BIGGEST SURPRISE:

Coming out of the gate fucking horribly. I tried starting Stanley Johnson at SG to start the season, playing THJ at the backup 1-2-3, which did not work at all. Maybe small sample size, idk. Stanley looked better at the 3 than the 2 throughout the year, and THJ eventually started making shots, hard to tell how much was causal vs coincidental.

BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT:

Not a player, just the big picture regular season. I think my squad was / is a fair bit better than our record and point differential, but dealt with some frustrating injuries and potentially dumb DCs. All that said, making the playoffs on the last day of the season was fucking electric.

Disappointment number two is wondering what was going to happen the second half of the year in the NDL. I'm pretty pumped about Bazley and Reddish, and wanted to see them earn some accolades.

TRADE/ACQUISITION OF THE YEAR:

Sending out JJJ for Harrell and Gobert. Harrell is a starting quality PF on what was a great expiring contract, and Gobert a reasonably capable if overpaid C. With Harrell's emergence I was able to use Gobert to soak up backup big minutes where he excelled, coming a tenth of a block per game from leading my team in blocks off the bench, in just 24 mpg. Harrell resigned on a long but solid value deal, and Gobert is a season or two away from being a very attractive, movable contract.

I don't think JJJ is hopeless, but I was pretty mentally out on him after his second consecutive flat TC as an A pot prospect. This is certainly my own baggage, but he was reminding me of the experience of watching Marc Gasol refuse to get better after I drafted him very highly. Hoff has a totally different development plan for JJJ than I did, so I'm excited to see how that turns out, but pretty happy to get out of that business entirely with 1.5 starters in exchange.

I wrote all of that and then remembered I bought Cam Reddish for 450 RP, so that's probably the real answer.

REGRETS:

Kind of optimized last season in ways that ultimately didn't really yield us much, other than the playoff chase. Not super fun to be in the middle
