GMOTY - 2022/23
GMs have until Wed, Feb 26 to vote. If you like, you may refer to the results of the league-wide survey that someone put out on GMOTY criteria.
-Anyone who votes gets 100 RPs.
-GMs get an additional 200 RPs for posting in this thread and advocating on behalf of a GM. Do not advocate on behalf of yourself!
-Do not vote for yourself.
Things to Consider:
-GM proactivity and creativity
-Success in drafting, trades, FA signings, general team building
-Production in the form of wins, losses and team stats
-Delta in team performance from year to year (or in this case, from draft to end of regular season).
Winner Gets:
-1,000 RPs
-Ability to add or subtract a year to any player's contract on your team. Must be done within one season.
Tiebreaker:
-If any two GMs are tied in 1st place in voting, we will do a ranked-choice procedure for them + anyone within 2 votes of the leader to determine the winner.

I picked wes. nobody had the bullets winning their division. i personally had them to miss the playoffs when maybe their best player Ant went down. Thought he responded brilliantly and made great moves in picking up Glen Rice and then Lin for peanuts which shot him up the standings. Now they're in position where they can conceivably win the title
edit: didn't spend a lot of time thinking this through and could've easily picked my tree father kipke! think the recency bias of Wes' moves and late season surge got to me but good job to david too

Voted for Kipke. He went from 32 wins to 57 wins in a single season and added Oubre, Embiid, Kawhi, and Kornet this year with a specific vision (break the steals record) and executed on that vision. Think the Nuggets are the classic switch-flip team.
Honorable mentions include the Bullets, who picked up Linsanity for cheap, and the Clippers, who picked up Kyrie in FA, but given that Linsanity is a one year rental (since he wouldn't start for the Bullets) and I preferred the Mavs side of the Kyrie trade, I think the Nuggets are the right choice.

Pretty interesting class of GMOTY this year. Not sure there’s a true runaway candidate.
Kipke - acquired a ton of high end talent and won the west. I have some concerns about the sustainability particularly as Goga and Thybulle are walking into FA and will likely command significant salaries. Fun team though, and a great year
Matt - probably more coach of the year material than GMOTY (did I say this award sucks enough yet?) pretty incredible season. Probably the best start to a year I’ve ever seen in SLN. Received a lot of luck with the Sanders ghost signing and Rose 1m but it takes some luck to be successful. His DC was clearly close to perfect. Insane year
Clint - another coach of the year candidate. More or less brought back the same roster but had the best season in franchise history and deserves a shout out for that
Wes - weathered a massive Ant injury, acquired Lin at the end of the year which propelled him to a division title, what a genius move. Liked the Glen Rice move, hated the SAC 23 FRP trade.
Jack - made some shrewd moves down the stretch to shore up a thin roster and put together a true title contender. Moving Isaac to C was a master stroke. Kazemi was a great add. Barnes filled the wing minutes perfectly. Playing Lou at PG over Jamal keeps their TO down.
This is clearly Mean Girls where I sit here and break the tiara. So I guess I’ll give the biggest chunk to Jack. He made aggressive moves to shore up holes in his roster in a year where there was a truly dominant team in his division for the second year in a row. I like the gumption to go for it anyway.

I voted Kipke due to the year to year turnaround and the big balls trades for superstars. Wes deserves a ton of love for his under the budget moves, Matt had an amazing year, others made moves too, but Kipkes took guts and got results
FOR THE LAND - believe!

Was between the Nuggets and Bulls. Nugz for the biggest YoY win delta increase and generally pushing his sack of stuff in for win now pieces. Bulls for building a great team over the last couple seasons to being dominant this season. They're also positioned well for sustained success with no bad contracts and young pieces like Jalen Williams ready to step in or get traded for win now pieces. Ultimately went with the Nuggets for the big moves this offseason collecting an all-star cast of guys

voted for Weston. Weathered losing ANT for the whole season(was somehow better after the injury) and made a shrewd move to snag Lin end of the season which helped propel him to the second seed in the East.

Voted for Kipke. Kind of a no-brainer to me. Acquired 4/5 of his starting lineup and the majority of his bench this season, won the West, and didn't lever himself to the max while doing so (still has his far away futures and his team is pretty young). Not sure i see another case 1/2 that strong this year.

Voted for Wes. Had his bird rights guys stolen, lost Shabazz who was arguably his best player last year, lost Jordan Hamilton who was important, and seemingly didn’t have enough salary to build a playoff team, let alone talent. It felt like the bullets were gonna be another year away from being competitive with their young guys. They started hot and then cooled and then Edwards got hurt. Seemed like they were once again fucked. Nope! Wes made a very smart move picking up the underrated Glen Rice Jr for cheap, and then once again working within the constraints of limited salary, he got Linsanity for cheap and miraculously won a division nobody expected him to win. He was also relying on a lot of players he drafted, including the underrated UDOKA, and they delivered.
There were other teams that did flashier trades like the Nuggets, props to them. Bulls were incredibly dominant, Matt wins coach of the year. Nobody talked enough about how good the Hornets were. But I think Wes overcame a very bad hand and should get rewarded in my book, since this is a single season award (yet this award is still so abstract, alas lol).
