GMOTY 2023-2024
GMs have until Mon, Mar 31 to vote. If you like, you may refer to the results of the league-wide survey that someone put out on GMOTY criteria.
-Anyone who votes gets 100 RPs.
-GMs get an additional 200 RPs for posting in this thread and advocating on behalf of a GM. Do not advocate on behalf of yourself!
-Do not vote for yourself.
Things to Consider:
-GM proactivity and creativity
-Success in drafting, trades, FA signings, general team building
-Production in the form of wins, losses and team stats
-Delta in team performance from year to year (or in this case, from draft to end of regular season).
Winner Gets:
-1,000 RPs
-Ability to add or subtract a year to any player's contract on your team. Must be done within one season.
Tiebreaker:
-If any two GMs are tied in 1st place in voting, we will do a ranked-choice procedure for them + anyone within 2 votes of the leader to determine the winner.

GMOTY 2023-2024
Very tough/tight GMOTY race for me this season. Top options for me are:
Bulls for overall dominance. Picked up Allen and Hield this offseason who both played > 27mpg this season and provided good depth.
Kings for making a ton of moves and building a super fun team.
Suns flipping Rui for AG and shooting up the standings, nearly catching the Bulls in differential (mostly thanks to a weak western conference but still impressive)
Mavs for slinging some big trades to bring Embiid and Sabonis in.
Bucks for bringing in arguably the #1 player in SLN in Kyrie and pairing him with another win-now piece in Tyreek
Magic for a major retooling through trades this season while still remaining competitive in a tough east and making the playoffs.
After all that I’m still not sure who to pick. Going with the Kings, a classic Jesse season of nonstop flipping. He has a lot of picks (outside his own) in his arsenal to keep improving, and still built out an awesome core that could make some noise in this years playoffs.

GMOTY 2023-2024
Lots of big trades this season -> lots of interesting candidates!
Shoutouts to:
Jesse: Biggest YoY delta in wins, and added a lot of value to his team through the Celtics and Hawks deals, both of which I thought were great value.
Wes: Another big jump YoY, partially because of some natural development form his youngsters, and partially because of a big swing to pay up for the SLN goat midseason. It's an opportunistic move that makes more sense given the Good Job Good Effort Wes has in his back pocket.
Heimer: I thought he got great value for a 35 year old expiring KD in the form of a Jazz pick, he turned Tyreke into Shai, and still managed to make the playoffs. The trade for KD was one of the best trades we've seen in the league in hindsight, and I think we could look at the Tyreke deal the same way.
Derek: I didn't like the Shai deal for the Bucks, so my vote won't go to Derek, but he did put together a pretty terrifying team with Kyrie and Tyreke at the helm - you can't argue that Derek didn't improve his short term title odds by a lot.
Hoff: As fearless as ever, Hoff flipped around his entire team (including trading a recent #1 pick) to create a crazy frontcourt of Embiid / Sabonis / Tingus Pingus. Imagine if he had retained Kyrie!
Tyler: Went from 50 wins to 58 largely on the heels of the Rui / AG trade. It'll be tough to fully evaluate that deal until we see what Rui becomes, and I may rue writing this as I'm currently facing him in the first round, but Rui's efficiency was way down this season and he's not nearly as prime an asset in my eyes as he was a season or two ago. Nothing wrong with the deal from the Magic's perspective either, very reasonable guy to take a swing on - but I think Tyler could have gotten off of Rui at the perfect time and capitalized on a softer Western conference by putting the Suns over the top.
I think the finalists for me are Jesse and Tyler, and I lean Tyler because I think it's a lot harder to go from 50 wins to 58 than from 25 wins to 47.

GMOTY 2023-2024
Lots of awesome candidates this year. More competing teams and more trades than ever!
My top options are:
Heimer: turning a couple guys in their mid-30s into a first overall pick in his early prime + another likely top 5 pick and still making the playoffs is pretty nuts; as a person who tried to trade an aging pricey superstar for the last few seasons, I know how hard that was to get sufficient value. He clearly won all but one of the deals he made, and the only one he didn't win was really just part one of another awesome deal.
Matt: Highly successful retool after losing a major (and highly economical) piece in DRose. Hield and Allen were perfect role players to help fill the gaps and keep the Bulls head and shoulders above the rest of a highly competitive conference.
Derek: Agree with Matt here, didn't love the value in the Shai deal for Milwaukee but we forget that he got Kyrie, still a top 3 player in the game, for legit pennies on the dollar like 5 sims before that; Irving moved the Bucks from around .500 to a legitimate playoff contender on his lonesome, and figures to be a playoff matchup nightmare.
Weston: Definitely feel like this was a much better campaign for the Bullets than last year - taking a big swing on KD when his team was already ahead of the rest of the pack in the East but well behind Chicago seems like the right move at the right time, even if he could have given up less. Securing the +5 Pot for Durant was important, too.
Hoff: A vintage Hoff season that saw multiple balls on the table moves, deals where he annihilated other GMs and deals where he took a bath - that said pushing chips in when the West (and the Midwest division in particular) is weak definitely seems prudent. Didn't love the Kyrie value but the moves for Embiid and Zinger were highly opportunistic. Honestly just a pleasure to watch this guy work.
Jesse: Typical Skillz moves this year to turn his entire team over - liked the value in most of the deals he made, particular the Mitten one. He's put together a super scary playoff team, but I will add an asterisk to this campaign because he got very lucky as a +1 team to get to 47 wins and make the playoffs, even in the West with all the tankers.
Tyler: I posted it about it earlier, but AG was exactly what the Suns needed to get out of the pack this year. The one area they lacked was shotblocking, and Tyler saw that with a short window to win before the team is untenably expensive, he couldn't afford to wait around for Rui's shooting to improve. Agree with Matt, nothing wrong with the Magic's decision to take a swing and get younger, but I think this was the single best move by any team all year. On the Suns side, the toughest trades to make are young stars/blue chip prospects for prime stars, especially when you once traded Tony Parker for Jamal Mashburn. I would love to see the splits, but I am fairly certain that the Suns WITH AG were a whole lot better than the +9 differential they ended the season with.
After all that, went with Tyler - his moves were enough to vault him into a Bulls-level position vis a vis the rest of the West, while the rest of his (very competitive) division were holding pat. AG trade was the single most impactful deal!

Voted for Jesse based on what he was working with coming into the year and the YOY delta which i think is pretty important. It's hard to flip a switch and you've gotta take a lot of risk which he did. I'm gonna chalk up his +12 win differential despite his one point point differential to some great GM'ing and certainly not luck. Should we be looking at point differential year over year?? Idk.
Love TP and his moves and the Suns are a straight up wagon and he was bold but he was starting from a stronger deck IMO
Hoff threw up a great year and was my very close third. Similar to Joe I thought he had some great moves but also didn't love the Kyrie trade.

Competitive year for GMOTY with no obvious leader imo.
Jesse had a super fun year. He made a ton of deals, I liked some for the kings, didn’t like others. I thought the Winslow and GP3 trade was crazy crazy good for the kings to only give up a first. Not sure I liked the Edey and Goga trades as much from a value perspective though. The team he ultimately built is really good/scary and still has a ton of picks left in the chamber to go add more talent. Scary
Wes pushed some chips in at a good time imo. KD has been a bonafide killer in the playoffs and this bullets team needed a true super star in order to compete with the Bulls. I do wonder if they would’ve been better off long term holding Winslow but I think this increase chance at a title odds is worth the swing. Helps when he comes back on a discount too!
Ultimately voting for Matt. I know win delta is a part of the award, and the bulls technically lost more games this year than last but I thought the move to grab Allen and Buddy after the Rose retiring was shrewd. He kept this team ahead of the pack from the rest of the league for another year. +12 point differential in a super competitive league is crazy and Matt deserves credit for building a super team that looks to be sustainable. My only critique on Matt’s campaign is using the RFA tag on Luka and not walking away with a long term deal.

GMOTY 2023-2024
Voted for: Scoops (Miami Heat)
Record: 46-36Previous Year Record: 28-54
Key Additions: Traded for James Harden, Bobby Boucher, and Blake Griffin
Analysis: Scoops gets my vote in a year where a couple of East teams and a litany of West teams have earned the right to win this award as well. Already camping his two young big men correctly, Scoops traded for proven commodities in Harden, CB, and BG to round out his rotation. Yes he gets the benefit of winning the ultimate East tie breaker but Scoops still put himself in the position to be part of the playoffs after years of getting fucked by the lottery elders. I understand this will be seen as a “hipster” pick but Scoops fits all the criteria for this award. YoY Delta and all them shenanigans.
Other Top Candidates:
Mavericks
PacDiv GMs (Suns, Blazers, Kings, Sonics, Bobbys)
Bullets
Magic

Voted for Hoff.
Embiid / KP / Sabonis fc, with lamelo at pg? You kidding me!? Took a while to execute but that’s the scariest frontcourt we have seen in sln and it should be sustainable(ish).
Merv was actually my second. I think his sequence of deals will age the best . He took a step back but (I believe) won more games than last year. Edey and Rui deals makes sense from an age / contractual pov.
Tyler wins trade of the year for the AG flip. Perfect fit for his team.
Evan has done a really really good job in miami
Matt, Clint, Wes, Nick, Quady, etc all held or improved the line with top top contenders.

I liked the KD move for both parties. I liked the Kyrie move from Derek. Hoff put his nuts on the line several times and made a really cool team. Merv and Tyler's AG trade seemed like a huge win win. Matt's move for Buddy hield and jarrett allen worked out pretty well
Im going to go with Jesse though, I feel like he made the most team improvement without giving up his treasure chest of picks to do so
