GMOTY 2027-28

Post by Matt »

Hey all, and welcome to the 2nd season of GMOTY with our new process! Voting is open now and will remain open until the Finals begin (unless we speed through the playoffs, in which case we will adjust and make sure people have more time to vote). Chair this season is Matt, text your top 3 to me (773-322-8777)

Reminder that you can vote for whoever you like, not just the people on this list

As a reminder, here is the process:
- Our esteemed GMOTY committee has selected 6 GMOTY Finalists
- To submit your vote, text your RANKED TOP THREE choices to the GMOTY Committee Chair (Matt, 773-322-8777). All voters will earn 100 RP, just as they did in the prior format.
- After votes are tallied, I'll post the winner in this thread (or will post a runoff in the event of a tie). After the winner has been posted, feel free to post your voting rationale in this thread for the bonus 200 RP
- Feel free to refer to the rule change thread here https://simleaguenirvana.com/posting.ph ... it&p=43976

Winner Gets:
-1,000 RPs
-Ability to add or subtract a year to any player's contract on your team. Must be done within one season.

Must apply removal year (if only year) prior to Day 1 of FA. If you do it during FA, it will remove "Last Team" and bird rights and FBB will not let Ashes change that.

GMOTY Finalists (in no particular order)

GMOTY 2026-2027

Tyler

Team Performance:
43-29, +3.1 (Last year: 45-37, +3.9)

Trades Made:
Josh Okogie, PHX 31, 500 RP for James Wiseman, Traye Jackson Davis, Kelly Oubre
Markelle Fultz, Trayce Jackson Davis, Bennett Stirtz, Dillon Jones for Brandon McCoy, Tounde Yessoufou, Tyler Herro, Trey Murphy
Alex Len and 100 RP for Brandon Jennings
Michael Porter Jr, Jahlil Okafor for Udoka Azubuike, Austin Reaves, WAS 28, 800 RP
Kelly Oubre, Mitchell Robinson, better of WAS / ATL 28 for Donovan Mitchell, Abraham Juom Maker Bol, Qin Pang, BOS 29, CHI 30, CHI 31, PHX 31
Donovan Mitchell, 550 RP for MIkal Bridges
Tyler Herro, James Wiseman, BOS 29, CHI 30, CHI 31 for Kristaps Porzingis and Thomas Bryant
Mikal Bridges, Austin Reaves, Thomas Bryant, Darrion Williams, worse of WAS/ATL 28, PHX 33 for Kyrie Irving

Net Assets Out:

Markelle Fultz, Josh Okogie, Michael Porter Jr., Jahlil Okafor, Mitchell Robinson, WAS 28, ATL 28, PHX 33, 1150 RP

Net Assets In:
Brandon McCoy, Tounde Yessoufou, Trey Murphy, Brandon Jennings, Udoka Azubuike, Abraham Juom Maker Bol, Kristaps Porzingis, Kyrie Irving
Relevant FA Signings: Michael Porter Jr., Jared Sullinger on MLE

Depth Chart: Standard with lots of tweaking

Overall Value Added:

Snip snap snip snap snip snap! Tyler started the season by moving off of a superstar PG in favor of two top prospects in Brandon McCoy and Tounde Yessoufou, but ended the season by retooling on the fly and turning his team into a win-now contender without sacrificing any of the assets he earned in the Fultz trade. After his flurry of moves, the team was wildly successful until Kyrie went down with an injury - leaving Tyler with an opportunity to capitalize on a short-term window with Kyrie in these playoffs while also being set up for future success as Yessoufou and McCoy, both top 5 picks, continue to develop.

Hoff

Team Performance: 58-24, +11.5 (Last year: 37-45, -3.9)

Trades Made:
TLC and Cap Space for Bam Adebayo and 750 RP
Cap Space, Meleek Thomas, DAL 28, 29, 32 FRPs, MIL 30 FRP, DAL 31, 32 SRP for Jonathan Isaac
Abraham Joum Maker Bol, Koa Peat, GG Jackson, SAS 30, 31 FRP for Aaron Gordon
Noa Essengue, Dash Daniels, Nate Ament, GSW 28, SAC 28, DET 28, DET 30, PHX 30, CLE 31, CLE 32, 450 RP for Luka Doncic
Edmund Sumner, 400 RP for Devin Vassell
Devin Vassell, 350 RP for Duncan Robinson
Bam Adebayo, Jaren Jackson Jr, 250 RP for Robert Williams and Willie Cauley-Stein
Sebastian Williams-Adams, Toumani Camara, Robert Williams, Willie Cauley Stein, Zymicah Wilkins, Zoom Diallo, PHX 30, VAN 31, DAL 33 FRP, 500 RP for Jabari Parker, Kevon Looney, Cam Thomas, and Taurean Prince
Jabari Parker, Taurean Prince for Jaylen Brown, Steven Adams, Devin Vassell, PHX 30, VAN 31

Net Assets Out:
TLC, Meleek Thomas, Sebastian Williams-Adams, Toumani Camera, Abraham Joum Maker Bol, Koa Peat, Noa Essengue, Dash Daniels, Nate Ament, Zymicah Wilkins, DAL 28/29/33, MIL 30, GSW 28, SAC 28, DET 28, DET 30, PHX 30, CLE 31, CLE 32, 950 RP

Net Assets In:
Jonathan Isaac, Aaron Gordon, Luka Doncic, Duncan Robinson, Jaylen Brown, Steven Adams, Kevon Looney, Devin Vassell

Relevant FA Signings:
N/A

Depth Chart:
Experimented with balanced for a sim or two but mostly has been traditional. Some tweaks as the season has gone along

Overall Value Added:
Hoff executed a quintessential “switch flip”, going from a -4 PD 37–45 team to +11, 58 wins and competing for the 1 seed in the West. In one offseason, he was able to consolidate a significant portion of his assets for a Big Three of Jonathan Isaac, Aaron Gordon, and Luka Doncic - but was able to keep enough gas in the tank to eventually pick up Jabari Parker at the deadline - then immediately flipped Bari into Jaylen Brown + to elongate his window. Hoff came into the season with tons of assets to play with and turned them into three of the best players in the league at their respective positions in a single offseason, and has seen results on the court. Hoff also added role players with a history of resigning cheap (Duncan Robinson, Kevon Looney) to try to preserve his championship window.

Jwoo

Team Performance: 61-21, +12.4 (Last year: 51-31, +8.1)

Trades Made:
Nikola Jokic, TOR 27 FRP for Tyler Herro, Willie Cauley Stein, WAS 2027, PHI 2027 2RP, PHI 2029 FRP
Brandon McCoy, Tounde Yessoufou, Tyler Herro, Trey Murphy, 369 RP for Markelle Fultz, Trayce Jackson-Davis, Bennett Stirtz, Dillon Jones
Bennett Stirts, Willie Cauley-Stein, TOR 29 for Dillon Brooks
Chuma Okeke for Brandon Miller and Cam Reddish
Dillon Brooks, Brandon Miller, Quinten Post, Dillon Jones, PHI 29 for Lauri Markkanen
Gary Harris, CLE 28, TOR 32, 800 RP for Nerlens Noel

Net Assets Out:
Nikola Jokic, Brandon McCoy, Tounde Yessoufou, Trey Murphy, Chuma Okeke, Quinten Post, TOR 27, CLE 28, TOR 32, 1169 RP

Net Assets In:
Markelle Fultz, Trayce Jackson-Davis, Lauri Markkanen, Nerlens Noel

Relevant FA Signings:
Denzel Valentine on MLE, Dalano Banton LLE, Chuma Okeke resigning

Depth Chart:
Normal settings, several tweaks throughout the course of the season

Overall Value Added:
The Raptors were set up for success coming into the season, but JWoo capitalized on his situation by nabbing recent League MVP Markelle Fultz, picking up Lauri Markkanen and Nerlens Noel during the season, and making the leap from title contender to title favorite as the 1 seed in the East after a 62 win season. The Raps traded away one of the best players on their team in Nikola Jokic before the season and managed to get better

Mantypas

Team Performance: 54-28 (+6.3 PD) +19 wins from prior season

Trades Made:
Drummond, Watson, Christie, Johnson, Saraf, 3 SRPs, 100 RP for Gobert, Sharpe, Pippen Jr., Jacobsen, CLE 29, 30 FRP
Gobert for Harrell, Bona, George
Cap space for Christie, Watson, 200 RP
Brunson, Harrell, Boucher, 250 RP for #2 pick, SEA 28 FRP, Bam, Franz

Net Assets Out: #2 pick, SEA 28 FRP, Bam, Franz, CLE 29, 30 FRP

Net Assets In: Brunson, Drummond

Relevant FA Signings: N/A

Depth Chart:
Balanced the entire season; Small tweaks here and there but never seemed to settle on a DC; has been using trap often and press often for most of season

Overall Value Added:
Brunson is a sleeper superstar and pairing him to a rising superstar Thompson was a great fit. A backcourt of Brunson, Black, and Thompson dominated the East and brought the Cavs the best season in franchise history. The added piece of Drummond cleaned up the boards next to Duran. All of this happened while able to keep former #1 pick Dybansta. Great season by Mantypas turning the team +19 wins in tank-flip year while keeping some ammo left in the chamber.

Heimer
Team Performance: 47-35, +5.4, 6th seed (26-27: 41-41, -0.6)

Trades Made:
-7/6/2025: Hawks trade TJD, Tari Eason, Herbie Jones(tradeback rights ATL), Marcis Ponder(12th pick), Kohl Rosario(13th pick), ATL 28 FRP, ATL 31 & 32 SRPs, and 1500RP. Kings trade Derek Lively II & Devin Carter.
-7/12/2025: Hawks trade Devin Carter. Lakers trade Herbie Jones. (Tradeback deal).

Net Assets Out: TJD, Tari Eason, Marcis Ponder, Kohl Rosario, Devin Carter, ATL 28 FRP, ATL 31 & 32 SRPs, and 1500RP.

Net Assets In: Derek Lively II.

Relevant FA Signings:
Vit Krejci, Luke “The Corn Man” Kornet, and Brice Sensabaugh. Take your pick!

Depth Chart: Kept the same consistent DC all season. Boozer as the number one option all year was surprising to see but he really came into his own this year. Super sized lineup all-in-all. Boozer/Kum Dumpster/Barnes at the 4-2 is bonkers to envision. Nothing extremely exotic w tactics. Fast/Sometimes/Often/Outside all season.

Overall Value Added: Heimer had been looking for a big since Zu spurned ATL in FA and returned to GSW on a 4yr max. He found his guy in Lively who had an astounding age-23 season. 12.6 boards per to go along with 3.7 stoinks to 1.5 turnoverz. Damn, all the while shooting a respectable 44% from the field. I think Heimer got a writeup here because he put the final touch on this starting group, one that is extremely young and will get better year after year.

Bobby

Team Performance: 43-39, +2.0 (Last year: 30-52, -4.0)

Trades Made:
Tahaad Pettiford, Gordon Hayward, Brandon Jennings, LAC 32 for Devin Booker
Frank Ntilikina, Luke Kennard, Jabari Smith, Sandro, NJ 28, PHI 28, ATL 29, LAC 30 SRP, 750 RP for Semi Ojeleye
31 LAC SRP for Omer Yurtseven
Danny Wolf, Devin Booker, Asa Newell, Monte Morris, PHX 29, DAL 30, DAL 31, LAC 33 for Josh Okogie and Mitchell Robinson

Net Assets Out:
Luke Kennard, Jabari Smith, Sandro, Danny Wolf, Asa Newell, Monte Morris, NJ 28, PHI 28, ATL 29, PHX 29, DAL 30, DAL 31, LAC 33, 750 RP

Net Assets In:
Josh Okogie, Semi Ojeleye, Mitchell Robinson, Omer Yurtseven

Relevant FA Signings: Brandon Clarke, Shabazz Muhammad

Depth Chart: Experimented with Balanced for a sim, but mostly standard with some tweaks

Overall Value Added:
After landing Shabazz and Brandon Clarke in FA, Bobby moved quickly to add another scorer in Devin Booker and then was able to do what many GMs have been trying to do for several seasons - pry Semi away from the Hornets. Adding Mitchell Robinson and turning Booker into Josh Okogie at the deadline helped solidify the core, pushing him to the top of the Pacific via a three way tie. The Clippers used the assets they had in their coffers to accelerate the timeline around superstar-in-the-making Darryn Peterson and are well ahead of schedule given Peterson is only in year 2. If they can retain Okogie and Semi ages the way most superstar SFs have aged, this team should only get better as Peterson continues to develop.
