BOSTON CELTICS 2030 DRAFT PROFILES
Michael Keets C
Strengths: A bruising big man with a feathery touch around the rim. Very strong. Good offensive rebounder. Should score effectively inside, draw fouls and hit his free throws. Solid handles.
Weaknesses: Very slow and may foul a lot as he struggles to defend quicker PFs. Not much of a stock guy. Passing? When he’s already this close to the rim? Seems dumb.
Scout’s take: Keets is a powerful, lumbering scoring big whose large frame will be a handful for most defenders. He won’t bring a ton defensively but he should be able to earn starting minutes with his scoring and rebounding.
Ratings: B C+ D+ C B- B
Josiah Brooks SG (PG eligible)
Strengths: A crafty lead guard with a knack for getting to the rim and finishing well through traffic. Solid handles and good vision. Very quick. OK strength for a point guard. Might get a steal.
Weaknesses: Will put up volume from the 1 but jumpshot is only passable and range leaves something to be desired once he’s outside the paint. Positional defense is meh.
Scout’s take: Brooks is a score first guard with a ton of upside. He’s a bit of a project for now but with the right development in his outside game he could carry a significant scoring load for a contender.
Ratings: C+ B- B- C+ C- A
Derricus Purdy Jr. PG
Strengths: A tenacious defender in the backcourt – should lock up opposing lead guards and get steals. Strong. Good rebounder for the position. Excellent all-around athlete. Good vision.
Weaknesses: Offense is a bit of a mess. Handles are an even bigger mess.
Scout’s take: Purdy is a terror on defense but will need to work out the kinks on the other end of the floor before he’s a viable starter. Might need to get creative with the DC to get the most out of him, but he has a chance to be an impact player.
Ratings: C- C+ C+ B C A
Henry Barbier C
Strengths: Solid moves in the low post. Good post defender who will protect the rim and occasionally get his hands in the passing lane. Strong. Good rebounder on both ends of the floor. Takes care of the ball.
Weaknesses: Not the best athlete in any sense of the word. Needs to work on his free throws.
Scout’s take: Barbier is built in the mold of the old-school big man, who lives down low and does the dirty work on D without any complaints. Not the highest ceiling player, though he shows some promise of being a defensive anchor and at worst a solid rotation guy.
Ratings: C C- D+ B- B- B
Denym Wallace PF
Strengths: A ton of tools to fill up the stat sheet across the board. Promising scorer inside with solid jumpshot. OK rebounder. Excellent vision – loves to get his teammates involved. Quick for his size. Good all-around defender who will get steals. Good athlete.
Weaknesses: Not the strongest. Handles need some work. Will take more 3s than you’d like given how many of them clank off the side rim.
Scout’s take: Wallace is an exciting prospect in the tweener forward mold; he’ll be able to get around opposing bigs on offense and can hold his own defending the wing position. He’ll need to get his body under control on offense and probably add a few pounds in the weight room, but the sky is the limit for a guy with this kind of multi-faceted toolkit.
