17-18 Offseason Questionnaire

Post by Joe »

TL; DR: More free RP for a quick post! Prob wait til after FA to fill it out.

In addition to Team Awards, GMs can earn a quick and dirty 125RP by replying in this thread and filling out the below questionnaire - not required, but why not? Copy down the questions in a reply post and fill 'em out. Can be serious, can be funny, whatever you want. If you want to wait 'til after FA to fill this out, it's up to you! Just get it done by the tip of the 18-19 season.

DO NOT claim your RP in the RP thread - we will calculate it separately before the season turns over and if you posted you will receive credit.

2017-18 Offseason Questionnaire

1. Draft thoughts? Sleepers, busts, your draft, other drafts, whatever.

SGA #1 all the way. Trae needs a lot of TC luck to be awesome but he’s gonna have a chance. Thought Mikal would have better defense. Took Vando because boards and defense make more Magic sense, but wanted Duncan Robinson to torch the NDL

2. How do you feel about your offseason, and what are your goals for this coming season?

Be better than last season. That’s the non tank goal every year. Keeping Randle would be cool but I’m sure I’ll get screwed there because I’m Orlando.

Narrator: he did indeed get screwed

3. Thoughts on TC? What improvements do you want to see from your team?

Would be so sick to see DBook take another leap forward. Curious if Kawhi can keep improving as he reaches prime age. Hope Zubac takes a nice jump as well

4. Who wins each division and why?

Atlantic: Knicks, Joe tells me they’re perfect
Central: Raptors
Midwest: Grizzlies, Kyrie was too quiet
Pacific: Suns, Boban

5. What team needs to pick a direction this offseason, and what direction should they pick?

The Boston Celtics. My god these dudes love waffling at the moment!!!! Is he tanking? Is he a 6 seed? Aside from busting Joe’s balls, I wonder if it’s time for Bobby to test the waters on a tear down. Rose apparently will fetch an insane haul per last pod. Idk if he has enough upside without fully levering to go for it.

6. Excluding your team, what is the player or team storyline you're going to be watching most closely this year?

The Swamp. I love Steven. He retooled with Blake and has a big decision coming up in his backcourt. I think he has a chance to really leap forward if he can find the right deal

7. We're 20 seasons and 2 calendar years in and we are all so grateful to have this league. If you hadn't decided to join SLN, what dumb useless hobby (e.g., community service work, getting a pet, spending more time with your family and friends) would you have chosen instead to fill your time?

I’d probably have watched a few more movies? This is way better. Now I get to hoop with Tong Marion

8. Instead of a player rating boost, come up with an idea for a 20th anniversary gift to all the GMs.

1 free amnesty. 1 free rule exempt RFA tag

9. Thoughts on your real life sports team(s).

The process is good. The results are bad. I hope Tong and I are busting Scoops’ balls this weekend but Tottenham is the definition of “it’s the hope that kills you”

10. Movies, TV, books, games, whatever recommendations.

Slow Horses Season 4 dropping now. NCAA 25 has been a blast until I play Navy and they RPO and no huddle me into an early grave

Bonus: add a pic/gif of how you feel about your season

1. Draft thoughts? Sleepers, busts, your draft, other drafts, whatever.
Shai and Luka were the clear top 2, pretty bummed we missed on them. Sad Derek ghosted us and Matt shut us down quick on Luka. Decent consolation prize to land #3 & 4. After scouts came back on Trae and Brunson I was super 50/50 on the two which led to the Nick trade. Happy to pickup Deandre Ayton. Was a tough decision between MPJ, Ayton, and Mikal.

2. How do you feel about your offseason, and what are your goals for this coming season?
This was the draft to get a superstar and while we missed on the top 2 I think Trae and Ayton could turn into all-leaguers. Goal this season is still to suck and pickup one more natural asset before testing the waters with our sack of picks.

3. Thoughts on TC? What improvements do you want to see from your team?
Need Siakam to show something before his supercamp next offseason. Would like to see general growth across the board for our young guys (Allen, Wood, Siakam, Young, Ayton).

4. Who wins each division and why?

Atlantic: Knicks. Magic may lose Eddy and/or Randle in FA. Knicks generally keeping the same core but need to retain Bayless or find a new PG.
Central: Hawks. Raptors have a big hole at PG to fill and if they can get an average one it'll be a coin flip between them and the Hawks. KD and Reke are still incredible.
Midwest: Minnesota. Giannis and KAT should keep getting better. Keeping THJ at a reasonable cost/filling out some depth will be hard. Jazz lost Jameer but still have a very good roster minus PG. Interesting decision to lever up more and go for it or start to pull back. Didn't love the Blake for Rudy swap in Dallas but TBD if he holds the NJ picks or flips for a major piece. Griz are sick too, this division is wild.
Pacific: Suns. Boban

5. What team needs to pick a direction this offseason, and what direction should they pick?
76ers. Trade LeBron for young assets before his value drops.

6. Excluding your team, what is the player or team storyline you're going to be watching most closely this year?
Minnesota's in an interesting spot. Last year of KAT's rookie deal where he can put some really good depth around the rest of his core. I think he should be pushing some chips in to really go for it next season. Bulls will be fun to watch maneuver in the short term while they don't have their picks.

7. We're 20 seasons and 2 calendar years in and we are all so grateful to have this league. If you hadn't decided to join SLN, what dumb useless hobby (e.g., community service work, getting a pet, spending more time with your family and friends) would you have chosen instead to fill your time?
So grateful to have this league is an understatement. Glad Matt sold me on this 2 years ago as his favorite hobby. Would def be wasting more time on TV shows, video games, movies, and golf.

8. Instead of a player rating boost, come up with an idea for a 20th anniversary gift to all the GMs.
Each GM can rename one player on their roster

9. Thoughts on your real life sports team(s).
Jayden Daniels looked good. Just like the Bullets, the Commies kept their secondary as bad as they could to pickup one more natural asset (plz Travis Hunter) before flipping the switch and dominating the league. Terps losing to Mich St was sad. Nats young guys are showing promise, hoping a Soto return is coming this offseason.

10. Movies, TV, books, games, whatever recommendations.
CFB25 is fun except for Heimer having my number. Dampier for president!

1. Draft thoughts? Sleepers, busts, your draft, other drafts, whatever.
Limited educated thoughts. Wonder where luka will fall on the westbrook to lebron spectrum. Other than that I wish I had picks this past year.

2. How do you feel about your offseason, and what are your goals for this coming season?
I was pumped to get Capela on a cheap contract, and even nurkic on a good contract that I expect him to live up to. There was a risk I could lose both of these guys - really happy to keep my frontcourt the same. The rest of the offseason offseason is all about TCs - can thabo, conley and cj miles hold while the youngens ascend?

3. Thoughts on TC? What improvements do you want to see from your team?
Let's see ingram become good! Kristaps improving his blocking! crossing the fingers

4. Who wins each division and why?

Atlantic: Knicks. embiid is 24
Central: Hawks?
Midwest: Grizz. Let's get better
Pacific: Suns. Even without livingston, think this is still the weakest division

5. What team needs to pick a direction this offseason, and what direction should they pick?
Time for the cavs to lean in!

6. Excluding your team, what is the player or team storyline you're going to be watching most closely this year?
Bulls fighting to lower the value of his pick.

7. We're 20 seasons and 2 calendar years in and we are all so grateful to have this league. If you hadn't decided to join SLN, what dumb useless hobby (e.g., community service work, getting a pet, spending more time with your family and friends) would you have chosen instead to fill your time?
Most of my sim league time is during work hours and replacing other useless time wasting. I'd probably do more work? ew

8. Instead of a player rating boost, come up with an idea for a 20th anniversary gift to all the GMs.
Give player a double TC

9. Thoughts on your real life sports team(s).
Bear down. Caleb will be good.

10. Movies, TV, books, games, whatever recommendations.
Looking forward to watching slow horses. Murders in the building is always a fun watch.

WARRIORS 2017-18 Offseason Questionnaire

1. Draft thoughts? Sleepers, busts, your draft, other drafts, whatever.

Sleepers: ANFERNEE, Mikal, Tate, Trent Jr., Graham, Bonga
Busts: Too early to say
My Draft: 4 picks, Pick 12: Mo Bamba, Pick 18: DiVincenzo. Pick 22: 750 RP, SRP: Gabe Vincent. I was drafting Bamba or Mikal at 12, if neither was there i was trading out, im super happy i got Mo. At 18 i was only looking at Melton, so when no one wanted to buy my pick i kind of threw a dart at the board. I went with the name brand and I think he can be a do it all 2. Vincent or Jevon Carter w/ my last pick and JWoo made my decision for me. Overall, I love my draft, i am just unsure how i am going to camp everyone.
Your Drafts: SoNicks are well on their way to becoming the IRL Knicks, if he gives his players time I think this draft could go a long way in bringing him back to prominence. Bullets had me until the Wagner pick, but he could be a crazy good NDL stash. Matt didnt studder and chose Luka, who should look really nice next to DWhite longterm.
Whatever: I have to say this draft is extremely deep w/ name power but i wonder how it translates to SLN success.

2. How do you feel about your offseason, and what are your goals for this coming season?
Will see how she shakes out but I think ive positioned myself to just ride the wave. Re-Sign Jabari and Muscala and hope for TC luck. I have to really market some players for RP or just trade away some young guys but we shall see. Playoffs or its GGs on this squad. We went from barely winning to getting 37, we need more and I believe with the youth we can.

3. Thoughts on TC? What improvements do you want to see from your team?
Supercamping Sabonis should finally make him dominant after a brutal year 2. I truly just want solid gains from the whole team, whether its evident or not on the ratings page is fine. I believe in this unit ive assembled and i hope they all keep growing.

4. Who wins each division and why?
Atlantic: Magic
Central: Hawks, I give 40% to the Raptors, i just wonder what his team w/o Tony running it does.
Midwest: GrizzliJazzMaverickWolves? Toughest division in the league and it will be an arms race to see who wins it.
Pacific: Warriors, WE BELIEVE!

5. What team needs to pick a direction this offseason, and what direction should they pick?
Clippers? I guess with as little salary dedicated they could keep DRose. Building another team around him. Yet a rebuild on the fly could happen. Bobby does SLN to his own tune and ive been about it the whole time. He is at a crossroads if he does want to change it up though.

6. Excluding your team, what is the player or team storyline you're going to be watching most closely this year?
A LOT of players retired. Can the Jazz and Raptors success continue without legendary PGs. Checking on the 2017 PGs vs. the 2018 will be fun to watch as well. Best one though is taking a screenshot of Jesse's Kangz on day 1 vs 120 lmao. The trade fiend will strike again this year.

7. We're 20 seasons and 2 calendar years in and we are all so grateful to have this league. If you hadn't decided to join SLN, what dumb useless hobby (e.g., community service work, getting a pet, spending more time with your family and friends) would you have chosen instead to fill your time?
Write a book lmao. Do better in school? I love this league and I enjoy writing and analyzing so much. Stressing over my NDL team is joy lmao.

8. Instead of a player rating boost, come up with an idea for a 20th anniversary gift to all the GMs.
I was thinking just 2000 RP into everyones account. CRAZY IDEA though: Ashes presents a bag of STIPS, each team can choose one player to receive it. Could be any stip that has already been in the league plus any he wants to throw in. Players w/ Stips cannot be chosen.

9. Thoughts on your real life sports team(s).
RPO w/ Lamar and King Henry could be magical. I think for it being week 1, w/ the absurd amount of turnover the Ravens had, we handled the Chiefs well. Roquan looks scary this year. The Nationals keep grinding and the young OFs look legit which is a relief. Evan Fournier said he didnt wanna play for the Wizards, good, you dont seem like an enjoyable player to play w or against. Does he even attend POOLE PARTIES?! PSG look nasty without Mbappe. Uhm, ROLL TIDE ROLL as well. Deboer has em going right now. Offense looks sketch but the defense is suprisingly playing well with the scheme change.

10. Movies, TV, books, games, whatever recommendations.
First four episodes of Rings of Power are good. I read A Gentleman in Moscow last week after watching the show and the book is all over the place but still good. Terminator Zero anime just came out and is really good. Kite Man on HBOMAX is pretty goated. Bane is the best lmao. Only played it for 45 mins so far but Black Myth Wukong is a really fucking good game, just had no time this weekend to game.

1. Draft thoughts? Sleepers, busts, your draft, other drafts, whatever.

I did basically no prep for the draft and didn't scout anyone since I didn't think I was going to end up drafting, but as it went on I thought it was a pretty deep group with some legitimate fun-ish guys falling into the second round. Hoping Wendell Carter can develop into a long-term starting caliber guy with some luck and think Troy Brown and Jevon Carter could be viable bench guys, so walked away happy with our class. Needed some OK min deal guys to try and round the roster out as we get more expensive. This was a cool draft IRL, so I'm curious to see who pans out in SLN, I'd prob have gone Luka at 1 just personally, but it's a fun debate and Shai is probably safer.

2. How do you feel about your offseason, and what are your goals for this coming season?

I was a little between two minds about moving Paul George so quickly (I do think there's something there, but didn't really have bandwidth to experiment with him) but I felt like our deal with the Cavs solved three important tasks at once for us (clearing cap space, addressing point guard, and adding a legitimate prospect/depth big in Wendell) so it felt like a no-brainer, Clint was kind enough to sell me a pick to help facilitate. I was expecting to lose Tony Parker (RIP GOAT) but Brandon Jennings has become a pretty decent amalgamation of him statistically, and I think our infrastructure should be good enough to make another run at the title.

3. Thoughts on TC? What improvements do you want to see from your team?

Wendell Carter is my first blue-chip-ish guy since Aaron Gordon, would love for him to have a great first TC. Rest of the roster is a bit older slash not expecting a ton but also don't think anyone is at risk of significant decline.

4. Who wins each division and why?

Atlantic: Knicks, although I'm curious to see how they address point guard or if they bring back Bayless
Central: Raptors, hoping to make it four in a row
Midwest: Mavs, although I am curious about the Gobert/Whiteside fit, maybe Hoff isn't done dealing
Pacific: Suns, I am still personally reeling from being Boban stomped

5. What team needs to pick a direction this offseason, and what direction should they pick?

Golden State, I think they're getting closer to being a playoff team but need a move or two to do it, probably also hangs on Tatum's development a bit/Jabari re-signing but I think there's a pathway for Clint to take a more decisive step forward.

6. Excluding your team, what is the player or team storyline you're going to be watching most closely this year?

Whether or not DMo will trade LeBron — just genuinely curious, and I also have swap rights to Sixers 19 and his 2021 first, so this situation has an impact on my sack

7. We're 20 seasons and 2 calendar years in and we are all so grateful to have this league. If you hadn't decided to join SLN, what dumb useless hobby (e.g., community service work, getting a pet, spending more time with your family and friends) would you have chosen instead to fill your time?

I would probably be married and divorced by now with at least one child

8. Instead of a player rating boost, come up with an idea for a 20th anniversary gift to all the GMs.

Custom SLN gear that nobody will ever wear outside the confines of their home

9. Thoughts on your real life sports team(s).

None at all, why do you ask

10. Movies, TV, books, games, whatever recommendations.

I started playing Humankind which is modeled off Civilization and I've been spending way too much time playing it. Also playing NCAA Football but it's lost a bit of steam, would prob be down to play a low commitment online dynasty on PS5 if anyone wants to do that

2017-18 Offseason Questionnaire

1. Draft thoughts? Sleepers, busts, your draft, other drafts, whatever.

Was happy to snag two teenagers in this draft who seem to have some nice notes in Simons and Knox - hopefully one of them gets a good dice roll (historically we in Boston are monumentally shitty at luck). At least Knox will get some time in the NDL! Super interesting draft and one that was pretty difficult to handicap. I think Trae Young sucks a lot from a winning perspective in real life but part of me thinks he could end up game breaking in SLN. Down in the later parts of the draft, I liked Okogie, Bob Williams, Bruce Brown...and y'all are gonna regret letting Jesse get Bonga. The Sacramento marketing machine just got a super weird-shaped, hilariously named player - Christmas in September for the Kings

2. How do you feel about your offseason, and what are your goals for this coming season?

Probably the worst I've felt in a while. Last time we tanked, I vowed we would never tank again. in 2010, we tanked for 3 years, got brutally fucked in the lotto twice and then got one first overall pick....but when your first overall pick turns out to be something quite less than a transcendent superstar and the teams at the top are really good and play in your division, sometimes you gotta bite the bullet. The good news - we got two studs in the NDL to be part of our future, we've got our picks back and we've got a nice sack to play with and more assets to sell.

3. Thoughts on TC? What improvements do you want to see from your team?

Guess we're supercamping Taurean Prince after all! After a couple good uncamped TCs and much NDL juicing, hopefully he's more than just a role player. Willie Cauley Stein has won every possible award down there so hoping for big butted things from him too. Wouldn't hate if Simons and Knox show a little teenager bump as well!

4. Who wins each division and why?

Atlantic: Knicks. The only position they need to fill is game manager PG, and they should have their pick of several. Magic should make another strong run if they can keep Eddy and Dubious Handle in FA.
Central: Hawks! Raps prob take a step back with Jennings instead of Parker, and Atlanta will return all their important fellas. Pacers will be good but KD is broken.
Midwest: Twolves. Another year of KAT/Giannis development and Pank has all the assets in the world to fill out his wing positions.
Pacific: Kings. I think despite Boban, the downgrade from Livingston to Wall will be tough for Phoenix. Jesse sneaky has one of the most humble top 7 or 8 PGs we've seen in a while in Bledsoe and he'll make some more deals before offseason's over.

5. What team needs to pick a direction this offseason, and what direction should they pick?

Lol us. We are gonna tank I think. But also Cleveland! They should stop waiting around and buy our stuff!

6. Excluding your team, what is the player or team storyline you're going to be watching most closely this year?

I want to see the Sixers actually trade the Lebron. We saw the first non-cap (allegedly) block for him ever, and Lebron moving would be one of the most landscape-shattering trades of the last decade.

7. We're 20 seasons and 2 calendar years in and we are all so grateful to have this league. If you hadn't decided to join SLN, what dumb useless hobby (e.g., community service work, getting a pet, spending more time with your family and friends) would you have chosen instead to fill your time?

Maybe playing more guitar? Learning pottery? Listening to podcasts about non-fake things? All sound pretty dumb tbh.

8. Instead of a player rating boost, come up with an idea for a 20th anniversary gift to all the GMs.

Zombie bonus. Every team gets to resurrect one player from their team's history for a single season.

9. Thoughts on your real life sports team(s).

Patriots are pretty bad at tanking...or were they sneaky just a playoff team the whole time and just needed the right coach?? Heimer has me believing in Brissett and this defense, so I am ready to get hurt again.

10. Movies, TV, books, games, whatever recommendations.

Need a new TV rec. Rings of power has been solid to start, I really don't get the critics shitting on it so much. Some middle earth content = better than no middle earth content at all

Bonus: add a pic/gif of how you feel about your season
