Bored on a Train

Post by Merv »

Another installment of the much tolerated “Bored on a mode of transportation”. Aren’t we all so lucky! Today, I’ll just do a quick bounce around the league with some thoughts and categories. Perhaps a who he play fo

1. Los Bulls
The Bulls are en fuego. Off to the best start in SLN history at 21-0, Matt thought, ‘eh not sure this is a title team. Let’s trade KAZEMI!’ And acquired a guy named Blake Griffin or something. I can’t wait to see how this plays out. I feel like there could be some buyer’s remorse over time. Kazemi is a possession monster who shoots some but not a ton. Meanwhile, Blake brings solid positional defense, some steals and rebounds. The thought is that he’s improved Kazemi, but I’m curious if taking shots away from a 3 headed monster averaging 94 PPG (seriously) at a 50/40/90+ clip will be an unintended consequence. I’d imagine there’s some future cap implications here as well but feels like a thing for later when you’re 21-0 with a +15.4 differential. Matt about to drop a 69 over under and be dead serious. Derrick Rose, son of Chicago, takes a MINIMUM and proceeds to have his best season yet. What a guy. Luka is basically real life Luka but a good defender, how fun for us. Lambo is still sexy, miss you on a cheap contract. Finally, Nerlens Noel has fully blossomed setting career highs in minutes per game which allows all the other counting stats to follow.

2. Who Needs Kyrie
The SLN terrorist is gone and GX is thriving. Which is super cool for the guy that owns his 2023 pick. Trey Burke got thrown away by Nav and developed super handles? He’s doing just 1.5 turnovers per game and still super efficient. Bam and Poeltl are much maligned for their turnovers but there must be something really positive about them, this team generally doesn’t miss a beat without their star, er former star, PG. Where will the Lakers land with some shooting regression and the Suns coming out of the cellar, that’s the real question. We’ve seen early season pretenders in the Pacific before, I know I’ll have my eyes on this one. Separately, I heard Kyrie is in Inglewood begging for a big man. Guy is never happy.

3. Steal Yo Nuggets bih
Currently ahead of their own steals record pace by an utterly insane 2 steals per game. Kawhi, I miss you, what a season bro. 27 PPG doing 3.4 SPG!!! Thybulle at a 4.6:0.7 stock to turnover ratio. Oubre is still a possession monster. Honestly just a really fun team build and we haven’t even mentioned Goga or Embiid. I think they could probably use a depth piece or two and I’m sure Kipke will be active trying to poke around this throughout the year. The only knock on this team is they give the ball back about as much as they take it. Peyton Pritchard’s 3.8 or so turnovers per 36 cannot be helpful, and I’m pretty sure Goga dribbles off his foot doing DHOs. If he can find a way around these turnovers, probably by swapping out Pritchard for just about any game manager PG, the sky is the limit (same is true in Indiana).

4. Fun Stat Lines
I look at some of the shitty teams so you don’t have to.

Terrence Jones - 7.9 RPG and 2.1 BPG in 26.5 MPG, Tong is so jelly he didn’t get this level of TJ

Trae Young - 28.1 PPG and 2.0 SPG shooting .487/.421/.922. He’s fried anywhere he gets in the lineup

AG - need I say mo?

Cade Cunningham - 6.6/2.0/2.8 with 1.8 TOV in just 15 min shooting .363/.243/.842. Maybe some not so fun too

Darius Bazley - did you guys know Jwoo is mad about trading him, I’m sure he hasn’t mentioned it. 14.6/14.2 0.9 SPG 2.0 BPG at 51.1% FG%!!! 😳

Udoka Azubuike - 12.1/12.9 with 2.5 BPG. Albeit 1.7 TOV

Balanced BonGOD - 20.6/9.0/7.1 with 2.5 SPG 1.4 BPG with just 2.2 TOV

John Collins - playing 29 mpg, so per 36 for scale, 18 Pts 12.5 Reb 1.9 blk

Rudy Gobert - 11.4/11.7 with 1 steal and 4 blocks

Ben HIMmons - 13.9/12.5 with 2.6 stl 2.6 blk and just 1.7 tov

LaMelo - it’s basically real life, lots of counting numbers and still losing

Sacramento Kings - Smart and Powell look fun, a Magic success story!

As you can tell this got a lot less detailed. Train is pulling up but I wanted to try to get through the west. Even if the East is better again.

Going blind on the who he play for
Rockets
Saw Faried somewhere...maybe Nets?
Rozier no clue, we'll gooo Griz
Pride of UMD Alex Len, Nuggets?
Demar's made a lot of money as a filler guy. I recall him getting another fat 1 year this offseason. I shipped him off the Cleveland for Winslow last year, question is did he get moved again? Probably to match Steph so I'll go Nets which makes me think my Faried pick is wrong

Blake taking shots away from Luka / Rose / Otto was definitely my biggest hold up with the trade, but I think two-way bigs are really important in the playoffs and think the move makes me better in a playoff series.

We shall see!
