[Vote Requested] New GMOTY Award

Post by Matt »

Hello again! In two seasons, we will have a newly-implemented GMOTY committee that will provide a bit more structure around the award. However, the award itself is still overpowered. As mentioned in my prior proposal, the rule was ported over from SLOR, where there was no Hard Cap. In this environment, the award (1000 RP and the ability to remove or add one year from/to any contract) was nice, but hardly gamechanging - the 1000 RP was worth far less in SLOR than it is in SLN given inflation, and because there was no hard cap and teams regularly spent into the 110-120m range in salary when competing, the contract adjustment was basically just an RP reward also.

But in SLN, the award is broken! You get to keep your top tier rookie on his 3m deal for an extra year, or take a year off of the albatross contract you signed to keep your window open for a year or two - and given that people in general have expressed some discontent with how the winner is chosen and we have a new, unproven process to implement, having a broken reward is an issue.

The hard part, of course, is coming up with a solution. Here are a few options (and would love to hear more in the thread!)

- 1500 RP
The simplest option - just make the award RP only. This is a big enough bag to be meaningful, but certainly not big enough to alter anything about the league.
- 1000 RP and Medical Specialist (erase 60 day injury)
We all agree injuries suck - why not give the GMOTY a one time ability to erase some bad luck
- 1000 RP and two Super Scouts (four attributes within 5 of actual and auto-roll potential)
GMOTY earns you some RP and the ability to gain some more info about a potential draft pick - this is a pretty meaningful prize that will bear fruits in the future but won't actually materially impact anything in the short term.
- 1000 RP and first choice of one Leftover FA that year
Not quite as lucrative an award but potentially an important one for a GM in contention mode (which a GMOTY would be most likely)

I'm going to lay out the options for this vote as Status Quo, each of those 4 options, and then a "something else" option - I think the vote should be considered a success if the total votes for all options besides "status quo" reaches a supermajority.

Love the initiative youve been taking Mathieu!

thanks for the good work. I love either the FA leftover priority signing or the Medical specialist. these would be competing teams and holding that for playoffs would be a great reward.

gmoty extension is too game breaking.

matt if you even want to think about winning gmoty again, try trading luka for a haul, making some fun moves and making the team your own!

I don't mind the status quo reward if we have the newly-implemented GMOTY committee that provides structure. I think with the new structure the GMOTY will be more deserving than GMs voting on "popularity". Also, how game breaking has the GMOTY award been? Article idea!

very game breaking! it ends all discussions of tying this to realism. extending a superstar rookie contract by a year should not be allowed.

1500 RP to me is a pretty obvious choice. It provides 0 game advantage to anyone for a future season but adequately rewards someone for doing a great job

I’ll likely vote for something else as opposed to status quo but I do think this reward provides a chance to think outside the box and do something fun rather than straight RP. There are so many ways to get RP and I bet 95% of gms who win the award make the playoffs and get RP from that. I like the idea of incorporating BBB shop rewards as a replacement to the current one

to be fair that shit inflates way more than the standard like 10% a rookie contract increases year over year. The fifth year option isnt even bound to the 25% increase rule so that 5yr salary is bigly
