Draft Profiles - Trail Blazers Scouts

Post by quady »

As some of you may have noticed, this year our team is playing a bit more for the draft than the regular season, and as such, I’ve sent my scouts out to assess some up-and-coming potential young players. Here are the five profiles they sent back to me:

Cayden Gaskins

As a prospect, not at all like little brother Caleb. The brother spent two seasons in the NDL and still never cracked our starting lineup. Not a leader. Does not want it. Cannot get minutes on a tanking Blazers squad this year. Cayden meanwhile is a real dog. Not a Rottweiler exactly but maybe a Great Pyrenees? He’s got the makeup of a high-volume scoring 4. Not much of a jump shot yet, but that could come around. He ain’t a pass first guy if you get my drift. Handle is fine. Very mediocre defender but decent hands there. Shows good tenacity on the boards. Best current comp: a high motor Bogolujub Markovic.

Cash Kneuppel:

First of all, this kid is an imposter; everyone knows the real Kneuppels only name their kids K names. He might as well change the name because that shot is anything but cash. Kind of a guard tweener, it looks like he might be able to manage playing both the 1 and the 2. Handles might be a problem at the 1, size and speed could be an issue at the 2, but Cash is a prototypical grinder, coach’s son, just plays the game the right way type, if you know what I mean. Comp: a scrappy Kasparas Jakucionis.

Bryce James

The whole James family was in attendance at the Bryce games I saw. I think I heard LeBron muttering “not another season” under his breath, but couldn’t be sure. As a player, Bryce plays the 2 and 3. He loves to pass like the old man, but is not quite as advanced offensively as his big brother. The shot is only so-so. Not super active on defense. About average on the boards. I also learned he’s got a huge Twitch NIL deal streaming Civ 8, so I’m pretty positive he’s not spending his free time grinding in the gym. Comp: Jaime Jaquez Jr. strung out after gaming all night.

Pierce Paul

Now before we get into the profile, I don’t know why Paul Pierce named his son Pierce Paul. Rumor has it he saw himself listed that way in a box score and thought it had a nice ring to it. Young Pierce is pretty good, lacks some of the defensive chops his father brought to the game, but appears to make up for it in the decision making category. He’s another wing that plays both positions, with a pretty good jump shot and range that… still needs developing. I did learn that he has a list of every GM that called his father “Poopy Pierce” and flat out refuses to sign with any of them. Comp: Keegan Murray with steals.

Javi Alcaraz

Still deciding between the NBA and professional pickleball. Moves with the grace of a bullfighter, but also has the temper of one. Is constantly correcting the pronunciation of his name, even when it sounds right the first time. Javi. Javi. Plays either big spot and likes to act as an offensive hub, zipping the ball around. Jump shot is pretty good for his age. Rebounding and defense are poor. Has championship DNA but hard to see exactly how that manifests at the moment. Comp: Wendell Carter Jr. as a first option.

Hilarious that we are calling Bronny James as “advanced offensively” these days
