2011-12 Offseason Questionnaire

1. Draft thoughts? Sleepers, busts, your draft, other drafts, whatever.
Anthony Davis is going to be a monster. Draymond will turn out way better than people think. I’ve publicly said Mike Scott was my sleeper and was about to draft him before seeing his defense was almost a C-. Happy to get JaMychal where I did. Not totally sure what he is but he seems fun
2. How do you feel about your offseason, and what are your goals for this coming season?
The Magic are generally directionless. We’ll keep winning until we don’t. Would be fun to land a major star but that doesn’t really seem available.
3. Thoughts on TC? What improvements do you want to see from your team?
Continued CJ Miles improvement and a positive TC from Yi would be awesome. I need Cory Joseph to not jump to B anything but outside so he can get all the gains.
4. Who wins each division and why?

Atlantic: 76ers, Bron is good and I don’t love most of the other rosters at the moment. Celtics probably still a year or two away even if they land a former all star PG
Central: Bulls. Bulls until it’s not with Tony Parker
Midwest: Grizz? If Pau stays, for sure. If not this is wide open and might be Dallas
Pacific: Blazers, Dirk is gone. Quady’s time has come

5. What offseason move (trade, signing, etc.) surprised you the most (might need to wait til after FA)?
Trading Greg Oden for Dirk and Diop. I think Dirk is on a very different timeline from Lou and Kyrie so it’ll be interesting to see the balance of that. I know Oden has some haters but I’m all in
6. A lot of young talent entering the league at the top of these last few drafts. 7 years from now, who will be the best player in the league and why? (Lebron will be 35 and hopefully slowing down, but maybe not...just don't say Lebron)
It’s LeBron. Like the real NBA. If not him, Durant. He’s only going to get better. I think Luka will be really fun but this might be early for Luka’s time
7. Two big uglies joining the league as well, in Anthony Davis and Khris Middleton. Hideous. Do some research and post a picture (and name and brief background) of the ugliest player you can find in NBA/CBB history.
Image
Mainly because I hated Marshall Henderson in college. The worst
8. What GM have you not heard from in a while that you want to hear on a pod? What question would you ask them? (extra credit: get them to join a pod this season)
Jesse. And I’d ask, what does it mean to be Kang?
9. Thoughts on your real life sports team(s).
The Tottenham roller coaster continues. 4-0 at Villa Park! I think everyone one of these has been a real high or low for Spurs as it’s been quite a year. Heung-Min Son is the most underrated footballer in the world
10. Movies, TV, books, games, whatever recommendations.
Probably gonna beat some people to the punch on this. Shōgun on Hulu/Disney/FX is tremendous. Samurai Game of Thrones as a lazy comp
Bonus: add a pic/gif of how you feel about your season
I learned from this that googling CJ Miles is interesting.

1. Draft thoughts? Sleepers, busts, your draft, other drafts, whatever.
4 lotteries and my pick has moved back each time, tanking sucks so much (Yes I know I got Kawhi last season but that wasn't my pick). If I had stayed at 3 the plan was Beal so I'm hoping Middleton can be a nice silver lining. I was leaning pretty hard towards Draymond and building a defensive behemoth until Middleton went off in the combine. I figured Middleton can develop into a nice scoring piece and grabbing MKG at 8 and molding him into a PF would be a better alternative than Draymond and a lower tiered wing.

2. How do you feel about your offseason, and what are your goals for this coming season?
A lot is going to depend on FA, I have cap space and made what I think are some competitive bids but I still plan to be patient and won't be deterred if I dont sign anyone. Falling in the lotto was disappointing.

3. Thoughts on TC? What improvements do you want to see from your team?
Steady offensive growth from Middleton and steady defensive from MKG, curious to see if Kawhi improves at all but he has a super camp incoming next offseason.

4. Who wins each division and why?

Atlantic: 76ers, Bron
Central: Bulls, TP is inevitable
Midwest: Finally this division is wide open (if Pau doesnt return). Griz if Pau stays, Jazz if he doesnt.
Pacific: Blazers (I think they win the West if they dont move Dwight)

5. What offseason move (trade, signing, etc.) surprised you the most (might need to wait til after FA)?
Was surprised by the Pistons going after Dirk but I understand the allure of a guy that always seems to have his team in the playoff hunt.

6. A lot of young talent entering the league at the top of these last few drafts. 7 years from now, who will be the best player in the league and why? (Lebron will be 35 and hopefully slowing down, but maybe not...just don't say Lebron)
Future Spur Giannis Antetokounmpo

2011-12 Offseason Questionnaire

1. Draft thoughts? Sleepers, busts, your draft, other drafts, whatever.

I was pretty pumped to get #6 at the end of the season because it's jumped to 1 twice in the last few drafts, but then of course it didn't for me. I really liked Drummond on the top end, I think he's going to be incredible. I hope Waiters is good, that would be fun. Further down, there wasn't a ton I loved - a lot of imperfect big butts like O'Quinn, Henson and Acy. Maalik Wayns kinda seemed like a steal.

2. How do you feel about your offseason, and what are your goals for this coming season?

Feeling pretty solid - I was slammed with work this whole last month so I really haven't been as present as I usually am, so I wasn't more proactive about sourcing deals to try to turn my team around. I've got a couple things in the works but there just isn't much in the way of available stars, so might have to get creative. Hopefully we do what we need to do on Day 1 of FA and can set a clear direction.

3. Thoughts on TC? What improvements do you want to see from your team?

It's all about PG in Boston. His ratings have improved in previous camps but I'm going to need to see his production jump big time this year. Wouldn't mind some little bumps from guys like Thornton and Bynum, but Beas needs a real running mate!

4. Who wins each division and why?

Atlantic: Sixers. Knicks should contest the division, but will be a little thinner this year with their cap situation and Lebron remains Lebron. Will be curious to see whether this massive bump in efficiency for Bosh is here to stay. Or maybe I'm just joshin and it's really the Celtics year
Central: Bulls. Champs are the champs! TP is going to retire one of the goats and will have earned like $9M a year on average for his career. Not fair.
Midwest: Nuglets! I think Pau moves this offseason and the Grizzlies release their stranglehold on the division as Steph takes another step forward.
Pacific: Blazers. Not totally sure what most of the teams in this division are actually doing, but at least I know the Blazers have a winning formula.

5. What offseason move (trade, signing, etc.) surprised you the most (might need to wait til after FA)?

Pau to the Kings I suppose? Perhaps the most surprising thing is that Jesse is keeping him.

6. A lot of young talent entering the league at the top of these last few drafts. 7 years from now, who will be the best player in the league and why? (Lebron will be 35 and hopefully slowing down, but maybe not...just don't say Lebron)

I think it's going to be AD. I think he's going to organically get to where Bosh is now, and he's going to do it faster and ultimately be even better. With blocks and rebounds becoming scarcer, AD will have even more outsized value.

7. Two big uglies joining the league as well, in Anthony Davis and Khris Middleton. Hideous. Do some research and post a picture (and name and brief background) of the ugliest player you can find in NBA/CBB history.

My first born son, Big Gheorghe Muresan. I will never forgive him for what he did to me in 1998 FA Day 1, but I will commemorate his grotesque visage in this Questionnaire 15 years later.

Image

8. What GM have you not heard from in a while that you want to hear on a pod? What question would you ask them? (extra credit: get them to join a pod this season)

Get scoops on here! I wanna hear what his plan is for all these young studs.

9. Thoughts on your real life sports team(s).

Celtics have run train on everyone except the Nuggets, who are apparently impossible to beat. Even if we do get out of the East (which would require our glass big men staying healthy), and that's a huge if, I'm not very optimistic about our title chances. I feel like the emergence of these Jayson Tatum clutch stats are just regular old Boston hate, but I am shooketh. If the Patriots end up having to draft Drake Maye I may just become a Commanders fan so I can root for Daniels.

10. Movies, TV, books, games, whatever recommendations.

Definitely in the market for a new show, so probably going to start watching the Gentlemen because I'm a big Guy Ritchie guy. Dune was pretty sick. Also just watched the Green Mile for the first time, a Hanks classic - definitely heartwrenching, worth a watch.

2011-12 Offseason Questionnaire

1. Draft thoughts? Sleepers, busts, your draft, other drafts, whatever.
I think this draft was better than people think! the top of the NDL portion looks good. I liked Oquinn and Leonard at 18 and 19 and plumlee at 24

2. How do you feel about your offseason, and what are your goals for this coming season?
Nervous! I took on the resigning risk in order to go all in last season, and now I may pay the price. I think we would be competitive without pau and i could move my 15-18 picks as needed

3. Thoughts on TC? What improvements do you want to see from your team?
What if Wade gets even better???? Hoping Tayshaun and Tyson hold the line

4. Who wins each division and why?

Atlantic: 76ers - Lebron
Central: Bulls. Only potentially losing bench talent which Matt can refill
Midwest: Jazz. Best front court in the league. Al Jefferson is pretty much peak Pau / Bosh. But don't count me out yet! I won all my playoff games without Pau against Blazers and G1 vs. Bulls
Pacific: Blazers. I am mad at them for injuring my team in the playoffs but they are crazy good, probably best team in the west this year.

5. What offseason move (trade, signing, etc.) surprised you the most (might need to wait til after FA)?
I think the only major one is dirk/oden. super fun. I like oden and easy to understand from nick's perspective

6. A lot of young talent entering the league at the top of these last few drafts. 7 years from now, who will be the best player in the league and why? (Lebron will be 35 and hopefully slowing down, but maybe not...just don't say Lebron)
Anthony Davis. Notes allude to a generational prospect. KD is a TC from being the best player in the league today and should still be there in 7 seasons.

7. Two big uglies joining the league as well, in Anthony Davis and Khris Middleton. Hideous. Do some research and post a picture (and name and brief background) of the ugliest player you can find in NBA/CBB history.
i thought we have bulls fans here? Joakim's mom was Miss sweden and his father was a tennis player, and he is....

8. What GM have you not heard from in a while that you want to hear on a pod? What question would you ask them? (extra credit: get them to join a pod this season)
I don't listen to a ton of pods so I defer my answer here...

9. Thoughts on your real life sports team(s).
Have come around to thinking drafting caleb williams is the move for the Bears. If we can't get a second for fields we should keep him though

10. Movies, TV, books, games, whatever recommendations.
Started shogun, it's great so far. Outstanding season of curb (like always)

1. Draft thoughts? Sleepers, busts, your draft, other drafts, whatever.

I can't wait for both Henson and Festus to be LARGE BUTTS. Also, loved the Jeremy Lamb and Kent Bazemore picks. I think MKG will be a Buttman type player but maybe with some more scoring. I'm excited to see what Tyshawn Taylor has going since he was weirdly invited to the combine and kinda balled out.

2. How do you feel about your offseason, and what are your goals for this coming season?

I want to trade either Kobe, Hart, and/or Okur to free some cap space, and bring in winning players in return. I want to see big jumps from Holiday and Whiteside. I want some more contribution from Derrick Williams, Kanter, and Henson.

3. Thoughts on TC? What improvements do you want to see from your team?

THE OFFSEASON OF MR. WHITESIDE! Hoping Derrick Williams can also pop in a category so I know where to camp him more aggressively.

4. Who wins each division and why?

Atlantic: 76ers. Lebron, and the rest of the Atlantic regressed. Watch out for the Celtics though...
Central: Bulls. I feel like this is the first season the Central won't be so competitive.
Midwest: Mavericks. Massive jumps from Holiday and Whiteside!
Pacific: Suns. They're back with the same squad. Just need a little more out of Love.

5. What offseason move (trade, signing, etc.) surprised you the most (might need to wait til after FA)?

Kevin Garnett for 2 FRPs really surprised me. A) I don't think he's worth that anymore because of his decline, age, and expiring. B) I think the Heat could've waited one more season.

6. A lot of young talent entering the league at the top of these last few drafts. 7 years from now, who will be the best player in the league and why? (Lebron will be 35 and hopefully slowing down, but maybe not...just don't say Lebron)

Anthony Davis is going to be so good. Best offensive big man and best defender in the league in 3/4 years time.

7. Two big uglies joining the league as well, in Anthony Davis and Khris Middleton. Hideous. Do some research and post a picture (and name and brief background) of the ugliest player you can find in NBA/CBB history.

8. What GM have you not heard from in a while that you want to hear on a pod? What question would you ask them? (extra credit: get them to join a pod this season)

Myself! I want to pod sometime soon!

9. Thoughts on your real life sports team(s).

Knicks are getting healthy and can make a significant run in the playoffs. Giants had a really good first couple FA days. Hopefully, we make a couple more moves before the draft, then take that momentum into drafting well.

10. Movies, TV, books, games, whatever recommendations.

FARGO the tv show!

2011-12 Offseason Questionnaire

1. Draft thoughts? Sleepers, busts, your draft, other drafts, whatever.
AD is going to be an absolute beast. I hope Crowder and Sullinger can be valuable role players in the future, though have high hopes for Crowders all around game. Lots of late bigs, Meyers Leonard seems like an interesting guy

2. How do you feel about your offseason, and what are your goals for this coming season?
We are selling some folks and going into a tank now that we have our picks (dont you decide to sell your pieces off too knicks). In a very tough east, it feels like the right time to tank, especially with these younger teams getting better, I feel like im in prime positon to be one of the worse teams and get a pick. Planning on resiging Ben gordon and adam morrison and flipping them.

3. Thoughts on TC? What improvements do you want to see from your team?
Would love to see some TC improvement from my rookies. Also hoping to win a pickem camp and potentially applying it to a sign and trade guy or doing the wackiest thing with it.

4. Who wins each division and why?

Atlantic: 76ers - Lebron is too good
Central: Bucks - I wanted to go bulls, but I think KD makes another leap and the Bucks eek out a close one
Midwest: Nugs - even with the lose of Jamison, I think its way bigger to lose Pau
Pacific: Trailblazers - they are quite good

5. What offseason move (trade, signing, etc.) surprised you the most (might need to wait til after FA)?
scoops hitting me up for KG. I had interest from a few folks, but I loved the aggressiveness to get a bonafide stud for the young guys to look up to. get yourself into the playoffs sir

6. A lot of young talent entering the league at the top of these last few drafts. 7 years from now, who will be the best player in the league and why? (Lebron will be 35 and hopefully slowing down, but maybe not...just don't say Lebron)

7. Two big uglies joining the league as well, in Anthony Davis and Khris Middleton. Hideous. Do some research and post a picture (and name and brief background) of the ugliest player you can find in NBA/CBB history.
Joel Anthony - you guys can look him up, he is a weird looking guy

8. What GM have you not heard from in a while that you want to hear on a pod? What question would you ask them? (extra credit: get them to join a pod this season)
Never heard tonger, seems like a hella chill guy. Also never heard Jburns or Pankin, a threeway podcast with those guys would blow my mind.

9. Thoughts on your real life sports team(s).
Villanova needs to win the BET to get into the NCAA tournament so that fucking sucks. Redskins pulling off a nice offseason. The wiz have now broken their losing streak so thats pretty sick

10. Movies, TV, books, games, whatever recommendations.
Angels and Demons is a wild ride of a book. Still playing lots of Zelda TOTK on the switch. Getting baked and playing Mario Wonder with the GF is another fun ride.

Bonus: add a pic/gif of how you feel about your season

1. Draft thoughts? Sleepers, busts, your draft, other drafts, whatever.

I was in Scottsdale for the weekend during the draft / back half of the playoffs, so was super not plugged in. I've talked with a few guys in the past about how Draymond might be shaped. I'm kind of skeptical a high-passing big will have a lot of value in SLN, but who knows. Middleton looks great. I think the Lillard / Beal picks were probably right for Miami.

2. How do you feel about your offseason, and what are your goals for this coming season?

We're close - probably don't need to do a lot. Just looking for little ways to improve around the margins, the right minimum guys to add, etc etc.

3. Thoughts on TC? What improvements do you want to see from your team?

Would be nice to see some organic improvement from Thabeet, Horford, and Mirotic. They'll all improve in camps - Thabeet is getting a SC, and Horford and Mirotic will pick up some shooting juice. Al had a great season last year as a starting 4; with a little more organic improvement plus his shooting stip, he could be genuinely very good next year. I was looking at him in comparison to Kevin Love when I was doing my bigs rankings, and I kind of think it's a no brainer that you'd want Horford now, especially given the contract situations.

4. Who wins each division and why?

Atlantic: Super up for grabs. Philly has like 4 guys under contract, the Knicks are over the hard cap with two thirds of a team, it sounds like the Bullets want to get off of Manu.. I'll take the Sixers I think. LeBron is just so clearly the best guy.
Central: Bulls. Very excited for Rashad to demand a real contract next year.
Midwest: Grizzlies. Even if Josh loses Pau, I see him doing what he needs to to stay at the top of the division with Wade in his prime. Also are we maybe overrating Pau?
Pacific: Blazers. We finally slayed the Sonics in the playoffs last year, and beat them in the regular season for the second consecutive season. Will be fun to see what happens with the Kings day 1. Suns are on the come up. I still think this is our division for another year.

5. What offseason move (trade, signing, etc.) surprised you the most (might need to wait til after FA)?

I wasn't shocked Dirk and Diop moved - Nick had obviously been threatening to do it for years, but I was surprised it was to Detroit. Diop is 31 and Dirk is 34. How many years do you expect them to be better as a result? 1? 2? Seems like a steep price to pay. I'm an Oden partisan though.

6. A lot of young talent entering the league at the top of these last few drafts. 7 years from now, who will be the best player in the league and why? (Lebron will be 35 and hopefully slowing down, but maybe not...just don't say Lebron)

Durant seems like the easy answer - outside chance it's AD.

7. Two big uglies joining the league as well, in Anthony Davis and Khris Middleton. Hideous. Do some research and post a picture (and name and brief background) of the ugliest player you can find in NBA/CBB history.

Horrible goatee, extremely unique head shape

Image

8. What GM have you not heard from in a while that you want to hear on a pod? What question would you ask them? (extra credit: get them to join a pod this season)

Always like hearing Jesse's takes

9. Thoughts on your real life sports team(s).

Warriors were on a nice roll when Steph rolled the ankle. Idk if we beat the Lakers in a one game playoff at Staples though

10. Movies, TV, books, games, whatever recommendations.

Hmm let's see. The Scarface Tiny Desk. American Fiction. Chocolate cake at Claud.

Bonus: add a pic/gif of how you feel about your season
