FWIW I don't have any strong preference so long as it's not this season or next. Voted 2022 bc I'm a conservative human who likes to allow time to plan for change, but 2021 is also fine

Fwiw this is a direct result of gutting for my summer away from SLN and the old rules.

You’re talking to the guy who said he’d be the first sacrificial lamb to eliminate gmoy extension award. I imagine id ne upset but I’d just change my plans. I have no problem being the one to get fucked if it’s for the betterment of all.

Also fwiw I’ve been in the 4-9 odds my entire tank. I haven’t once reaped the benefits of the old systems lotto odds. In fact in hindsight, I imagine I’d have been better off in the new system this whole time.

Kinda funny you guys don’t value hearing the opinion of a fellow tanker just cuz I’ve been tanking for 7 years haha. Would you value my opinion more if I just started? Or do I need to be an 06 member for my voice to hold weight here?
It has nothing to do with 06 or any of that shit, lmao. I shit on Matt all the time. Normally to his face.

What you are saying is just rich. After you incessantly tanked for 5 seasons and are on the verge of transitioning out of a tank, you are arguing that we need to speed up a rule change that would penalize GMs - without enough notice- from doing EXACTLY what you just did.
I’m not the only GM who feels this. I’m just the only one who doesn’t mind pissing people off and having people not like me because I can be abrasive and brazen on the boards.

And mind telling me How the fuck am I transitioning out of the tank? My teams literally dreadful. I got Julius Randle and got WORSE. My team is on pace to be just as bad as these other teams ive had and in fact every pick I’ve made until Brunson has been a miss. So it might seem like I should be better after all these tanks, but newsflash, unless I spend draft capital and start slinging a bunch of guys around to end up in a tank in a few years from now, I’m going to be tanking for many more years cuz I suck 🫡

Again I’m literally in the thick of the tank race and you’re discrediting my opinion based on what? The longevity of my shittyness?

Ps yes I should’ve been penalized all this time for my deep tank.
Im playing the game the way the rules have set it out. You tank the worst and you can get the highest chance of getting a title contending piece. Youre hating the player. You should hate the game rules instead, cuz I certainly do.

Again, deep tanking should be punished. Not rewarded.

I have bolded one of your assessments that I believe is based on a false premise. The purpose of flattening lottery odds is not designed to punish or reward anyone. It is to disincentivize being so abjectly horrible that a team is 3-45 through Day 65.
You said my assessment is based on a false premise, but this is literally exactly what I said - the rule disincentivizes being one of the 4 worst teams.
Concepts of a Plan wrote: September 25th, 2024, 10:23 pm All in all, flattening the lotto odds is not remotely about team building strategy, it’s about getting rid of reasons to put out teams that would lose to NDL teams.
This is literally team building strategy? Right now there is benefit to putting out a horrible team, this rule softens that incentive, which affects team building - I don't understand why you're fighting me on this, we agree! The current meta for team building makes the deep tank a viable team building strategy, which is worse for the league. This rule makes that team building strategy less viable, so this rule changes team building strategy by definition (and changes it for the better! I voted for the rule!)
Concepts of a Plan wrote: September 25th, 2024, 10:23 pm So yes, I think the sooner that we can disincentivize being the worst team in league history, the better.
Like I said before, if we're flouting an established league precedent for no other reason than impatience, I think we're making an extremely avoidable mistake. This is a good rule change that I am all for, but it's a big change with a lot of impact and I will continue to believe that it just flat out isn't fair to enact it this quickly until I hear an actual reason of why we'd do it in 2021. To be honest, I kinda don't even think 3 years is enough time, but we've anchored around that at this point so it is what it is. I think it should probably be more like 5 years.

P.S. in doing all these quotes I found out the Merv's user_id is 69, nice
Man, I just wanted to reply to this and Joe once I got settled in at work and boy did this whole thread get completely out of hand. I just want to say that I think this is a thing we are all in 95% agreement on and have a difference of opinion and perspective on minute details. For instance, I think I have a different interpretation of penalize and disincentivize than you guys do. Nothing changes for tankers, worst record is best odds. Best odds at good player is good. For penalizing, sure it’s not great for people tanking, but nothing is actively happening to your team as it’s a passive rule change. The RFA rule that is brought up for comparison is different to me because it’s an active rule change where the GM has to make decisions.

When it comes to team building, I looked at the 8 teams with a .400 winning percentage and below. There’s an average of 1.75 guys on non-rookie deals of more than 1 season and multiple have 0. So my point about not changing team building is that you all for the most part have blank canvases and I think you’re all good GMs. With ~45 real life days to prepare, I’m sure the team building will be fine.

I’m more of a person that thinks if you can do something and it makes sense just get it done but understand that others don’t have the same line of thinking. As I said, I have no actual horse in this race, viva Splash Mountain Bros (h/t Matt)! Just happy the odds are changing. If it has to be 2022 for us to love each other then I’m all for it.

P.S. I wanted to do a bunch of small quotes because that looks fancy but didn’t want to figure it out on mobile

P.S. to your P.S. NICE

Independent of everything, it’s even funnier that this isn’t over a draft like Wemby. It’s for Scottie Barnes, Franz Wagner, Evan Mobley, and Cade Cunningham
